Would love to hear the views of the forum on which is what or any pros cons of either. Cheers Mark Re: Floor first or Kitchen Cabinets first 2Sep 15, 2011 8:40 am As an ex-builder I'd recommend floor first as long as you can protect the floor while the cupboards are installed and every trade takes care. You end up with a better finish as long as the kitchen installer does a good job of scribing ( planing the kickboards to suit ) the kickboards to the floor. I hate seeing beading around the edges of skirting, kickers etc. We used to get the floorsander to sand the floor and give it the first coat of sealer before installing the cupboards. It also depends a lot on floorsanders too. I've seen lots of skirting, walls etc damaged by some cowboys who come in last and don't take any care resulting in damage or marks that can't be removed. It looks neater and gives you a bit more room for one of those new tall dishwashers if you're ever going to get one. Re: Floor first or Kitchen Cabinets first 5Sep 15, 2011 5:24 pm Floor first! It gives the best finish and saves problems in the long run. You will get a far better finish if the kickboards are scribbed to the floor rather than running the floor to them. If you to the floor after the kitchen you end up with a section behind the kickboards lower than the rest of the floor. Imagine what happens if you get a pipe burst or a leak. You have created a well behind the kickboard that the water sits in and is very hard to get out. FLOORS FIRST EVERYTIME. Anyone that says otherwise is trying to make life easy for them selves and doesnt care about the finished product!
