Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 30, 2012 1:53 pm Does anyone know a person (or a 'type' of professional) who can be paid to provide an expert, unbiased, written opinion regarding kitchen installation faults for a consumer? I contacted various building inspection companies here in Brisbane (which is what the BSA suggested) but each one said they don't offer this service. My new kitchen was installed last year and it is still unfinished because of various faults. The company that supplied the kitchen states that the parts were correct (despite previously agreeing to re-supply the parts); the installer says he's also not at fault, and refuses to do anything to correct the problems. I've been stuck in this position for 7 stressful months, unsure of who exactly is at fault and how to prove this. Two tradesmen from other kitchen companies recently visited my apartment to provide quotes for fixing the problems, and they both agreed verbally that both the supplier and the installer have made mistakes that are costly to fix (they also said the workmanship was quite poor in general). It would be really helpful to have something in writing from an unbiased expert about each specific fault, to help me decide if it is worth pursuing legally, to guide me in preparing the legal case, and for evidence. Re: Expert unbiased opinion re kitchen installation faults 3Jul 01, 2012 11:13 pm We had a lot of problems with a unit that we had built down in Northern NSW near the beaches. In the end the builder got an independant person to write a report. Considering that they paid for this service I dont know how unbiased it was. I cant remember the name of company though. What about you take them to small claims court and let them decide? Re: Expert unbiased opinion re kitchen installation faults 4Jul 03, 2012 12:48 am Hi,do you have it in writting that the installer was going to fix the problems,if so you now have that plus the quote's to fix the problem. Sorry being in Sydney I cant be of any help. I usually get an email when someone replies to my post, but I didn't this time (or maybe I deleted it by accident), so I didn't realise anyone had replied. So far, I have received one quote to fix the mistakes and do the splashback - almost $9K, which was a real shock. My kitchen is very small, and both tradesmen who visited my home were surprised to hear I had already spent $14K on it, saying they could have provided me with a finished kitchen (far superior in quality) for less. Maybe I should get the whole thing ripped out, and start again from scratch!! Not very realistic though, financially. I'm in the process of preparing an application to have this case heard by QCAT (I think this is the same as small claims). I've found a local building inspector who's willing to do a report for $250, and the cost of the QCAT application is about $100 - if it saves me a few thousand dollars it will be worth it, but I've been warned that it's difficult to take action against a company that no longer exists. these look like missing batts.
