Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Polished concrete benchtops 4Sep 13, 2011 11:35 am Fu-Tung Cheng is the Zen master in the US for concrete benchtops ( countertops) and this site has lots of info on them. http://www.concreteexchange.com/concret ... -bath.html Some of the effects are striking and you can choose any effect and finish. The cost here in Australia if you got someone to make them and install them for you are on a par with stone benchtops from what I have read online so far. They also have to be sealed about every six months as they are porous like softer stone such as marble unlike Caesarstone. We are looking at doing them for our big reno as well but I'll be making mine. Stewie Re: Polished concrete benchtops 5Sep 13, 2011 3:30 pm Cheng does some really cool stuff with concrete. I went to one of his showrooms in San Fran. won one of his awards too.... http://www.concreteexchange.com/2011-be ... arity.html Re: Polished concrete benchtops 6Sep 14, 2011 5:32 pm Waay cool Aiah ! I've seen a couple of concrete kitchen benchtops and vanity tops in the past and always liked them. When I found his site by accident I just knew when we do our big reno what the kitchen benches will be. Some of the free form shapes and pieces he and others have made are truly artistic. Stewie Re: Polished concrete benchtops 7Sep 14, 2011 6:44 pm I have polished concrete benchtops. They were made by a local joiner and I were an upgrade of about $1200 (going from memory, so might not be reliable! lol) over laminex, two years ago. We also had to have base cabinets that could hold the weight. Maintenance is easy, just wipe over with water but I do have a couple of stains from oil. Re: Polished concrete benchtops 9Sep 15, 2011 10:52 am look up certi shine. from what I have seen they are pretty good. they densify the concrete which hardens the concrete itself then they polish this. Its not done by surface coating. They can also offer you a warrantee on staining and scratching i think. can choose from fully exposed aggregate or what they call salt and pepper look, which is just resurfacing a small amount to give it a veining look. http://www.homeideas.com.au/pages/sydne ... ct_id=3336 Re: Polished concrete benchtops 10Sep 15, 2011 4:55 pm Re: Polished concrete benchtops 11Sep 15, 2011 5:28 pm Loveeeeeee your kitchen, what timber is your floor gorgeous Re: Polished concrete benchtops 13Sep 16, 2011 11:02 am Nice, Meagan. When I tell people I'm thinking of having a concrete benchtop they usually look at me in horror as they probably think grey driveway style concrete until I point them to Fu-Tung Chengs website and they are gobsmacked. Stewie Re: Polished concrete benchtops 14Sep 20, 2011 1:59 pm Wow, thanks for sharing Meagan! You have a beautiful kitchen and it seems the concrete is not that much more in cost to upgrade which is good. I also love the timber floors I am looking at getting a dark bamboo on the floors. It looks stunning! Building in Bacchus To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10947 |
