Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 09, 2011 5:19 pm We have a kitchen that was new about 10 years ago. There's nothing wrong with the appliances or the actual insides of the cabinets... we just don't like the fake wood vinyl wrap on the doors or the fake granite laminex benchtops, lol. We're replacing the benchtops with stone (and knocking out the window as part of a larger extension to the house and creating a breakfast bar) however are a little unsure of what to do about the cabinets. There's nothing wrong with the doors or handles at all. We don't know whether it would be better to get the doors repainted proffessionally with 2PAC or just to get brand new doors with a 2PAC finish (or similarly glossy). What do you think? Here's what it looks like now: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: What to do with our cabinet doors? 2Sep 09, 2011 6:38 pm Are the doors a vinyl wrap or a lamiwood?? I wouldnt put polyurethane on either product but if its lamiwood it could be brush painted. If you want polyurethane you are up for new doors. The material is the cheap part of the job, its the painting and fitting that is the big cost. Lamiwood is a laminex product that is available in many colours and timber grains. It is finished with a 1 or 2mm PVC edge tape. There is no wood in it at all. The best way to know what you have is to look at the edge. If you can see a 1 or 2mm edge running around the door then it would be a lamiwood. If not then it would be a vinyl wrap. Either way if you want polyurethane then you will need to replace the doors.
