Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 31, 2011 5:08 pm It is a little bit too late as we have already signed work order and are on site so I guess I'm looking for some reassurance that my draws and cupboards widths are okay. The width of our space is 3050mm. This usually has a 600mm oven and the rest cupboards however we have upgraded our kitchen and got the 900mm free standing over which leaves 1060mm on each side of the oven. The original plans had this width made up of 900mm pot draws and 160mm single door cupboard however our CSR called and said that when other people have had this in they have been very dissappointed at the 160mm side cupboard as only wide enough for a couple of cookbooks. As such she suggested that we increase the pot draw size to the whole width i.e. they are now 1060mm. I can't find anywhere where pot draw sizes are over 900mm and wondering if there is a reason for this and if we will have trouble with ours?? The same goes for our overhead cabinets, they have been extended to 2 doors with total width of 1040mm for the two combined. Will my draws and cupboard shelves be okay and work properly. Will they look rediculously oversized? Re: Width of Pot draws and cupboards 2Aug 31, 2011 5:11 pm Take a look at the "show me your kitchen" thread and you will see all shapes and sizes of cupboards and drawers - the extra wide drawers look cool I reckon For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Width of Pot draws and cupboards 3Aug 31, 2011 5:34 pm Mclaren Take a look at the "show me your kitchen" thread and you will see all shapes and sizes of cupboards and drawers - the extra wide drawers look cool I reckon Thanks Mclaren, I've taken a look and think most of the pot draws are only the standard 900mm. I'm concerned that the extra 100mm might be an issue Re: Width of Pot draws and cupboards 4Aug 31, 2011 7:01 pm We had a similar dilemna. We had 115cm of bench either side of the cooker (slightly wider than yours). Original plans had a very narrow cupboard at the far end of both sides, which we disliked. We would have loved a single bank of wide pot drawers! Unfortunately our builder did not offer drawers wider than 90cm (apparently due to the weight of the drawer and contents). In the end we decided to split each side into two banks of drawers. The inside width of each drawer is 48cm. This has worked out well for us. The overhead cupboard section is a total width of 106cm on each side of the cooker (similar to yours). This a the perfect size for a 2-door cupboard, in my opinion. In short if your builder or cabinetmaker offers sturdy extra wide drawers and can provide quality drawer runners rated for the extra weight, then GO FOR IT! Can you see a sample of the wide drawers anywhere, made by them? Alternatively you might consider a double bank of drawers either side of the cooker. Do you have large pots? Measure them to ensure they will fit. My pans fit in quite well, but I do have to pack them a certain way. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss69/sierra_099/IMG_2066.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss69/sierra_099/IMG_2067-1.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss69/sierra_099/IMG_2068.jpg Re: Width of Pot draws and cupboards 6Aug 31, 2011 8:14 pm No problem at all to have pot drawers above 900mm. There are different runners allowing larger drawers and weights. Usually they say it cant be done becuase they are using pre made cabinets in 100mm increments and because they are cowboys!!! We build all our cabinets to the 1mm. You could also have an 800mm set of drawers and a 260mm door?? I do like the look of the overheads. CuttingEdgeKitchens, thanks for the info! Good to know you can get larger draws that work. I guess cause they have offered the 1060mm they must be able to do it, I will double check the runners when I get to that stage and doing that. Re: Width of Pot draws and cupboards 8Sep 01, 2011 12:36 pm Our kitchen drawers are 800mm wide and we can fit a lot in each of them. I had to pay a bit extra to "strengthen" them for the extra weight, but they are supposed to be 1000 wide or thereabouts. I'm sooo excited about how much storage I'll have in them!! Will probably get so see them in a few weeks Cassie 28/7/11 - Slabbed 15/8/11 - Framed 19/9/11 - LOCKED UP! 6/10/11 - Kitchen in! 11/11/11 - It's all OURS! Just wondering how deep is that drawer to accomodate those as I am in the final planning stage of my new kitchen Top drawers are usually 180mm high externally which gives 135mm of internal storage height which works perfectly for mugs and utensils. Yes they are 180mm high outside and 100mm for the height of the side of drawer. I have put pots with their lids upside down in the middle top drawer of the same height. 3rd top drawer is full of lots of bit and pieces. A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. Is that too small? Our total width is 2,834mm and we have to have a 910mm pot drawer in the middle (under the cooker). So that leaves +- 960mm on either side. Suggestions welcome. -G Re: Width of Pot draws and cupboards 14Sep 15, 2011 6:04 pm Brannor Hope you don't mind me using your thread...but we're looking at our design now...and they're showing 481mm pot drawers (width). The external space either side of the oven is 55cm. Is this adequate or should I consider using these drawers for something else and move the pots to a nearby bank of 76cm drawers (which I'd planned to use for crockery)? Thanks, Pippi Hello I'm remodeling my kitchen and evaluating ideas. We are in the last stages of drawing and I am now considering putting a pot filler tap in above the hob.
