Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 14, 2011 10:19 pm Hi, I am in the process of choosing items for my first home and I am really stuck and in need of some advice in relation to the kitchen. Everything is so new and overwhelming that I find myself so unsure about what to choose. I am pretty certain that I will use Oyster Linea on the cupboards. The walls will be whisper white. I am keen on the toffee mineralstone benchtop and have chosen diamond gloss at this stage. What I am unsure about is what will be best - diamond gloss or do I just go natural. Also, for my cabinets do I go with natural or something like silk laminex. I have little children so want an easy to clean option, but also want the kitchen to look nice. Does anyone else have the oyster linea in the silk finish or natural? do you like it? I have read a lot of comments about diamond gloss and still not sure about it. Just don't want the kitchen to look dull at all Thank you Heytherek Re: Confused about Laminex options 2Aug 22, 2011 4:58 pm we were very close to picking oyster linea (we didnt because we needed a couple large joinery doors, which needed to be thick, so we went 2pac) i dont know about diamond gloss for a bench top but if you want to look at the colour, i have a pic in my thread of the display home with oyster linea and a drak brown bench top Re: Confused about Laminex options 3Aug 22, 2011 6:53 pm I am still very unsure about diamond gloss. We usually fit stone in most kitchens but have used the diamond gloss a few times. I havent had any complaints yet. With the laminex doors make sure you ask for a 1mm edge. They used to only make it in 2mm edging and it look chunky. In the last few months 1mm has become available and it looks so much better! Also the house wall colour will be predominantly white, (with dark timber floors). Probably won't have photos in time for your decision, because we are only up to bricks at the moment. We're very excited about it though! Cassie 28/7/11 - Slabbed 15/8/11 - Framed 19/9/11 - LOCKED UP! 6/10/11 - Kitchen in! 11/11/11 - It's all OURS! Diamond gloss is promoted as being eight times more scratch resistant than other gloss laminates on the market. It will scratch if mistreated, but so will most bench tops. The "linea" in oyster linea, means that the wood grain pattern is tight (close together). Tight grains patterns look good vertical or horizontal. Have you considered doing pure mineral tops, with white doors and using the oyster linea as a feature. Maybe on you breakfast bar back panel or overheads. Just a suggestion.
