Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 22, 2008 8:55 pm We are considering having real stainless steel (304 or 316 grade) inserted (after handover) for the kickboards in our kitchen...
Has anyone actually done this???...it just seems the norm to use the laminex versions like brushed aluminium or the stainless "look", we thought of doing it a little differently??? Can anyone forsee any pro's or con's of doing something like this??? Re: Can you have real stainless kickboards?? 2Jan 22, 2008 8:58 pm This is done all the time also!
Much stronger, last longer, and to me looks better! My brother did this in his kitchen. What would be the cost of doing this 'vs' using the laminex / formica equivalent? The idea is interesting though Re: Can you have real stainless kickboards?? 5Jan 22, 2008 9:05 pm Michelle, i can get the idea from the pic, but it's a bit pixelated..
Can you e-mail it to me??? Wooo Hoo, happier now... we went with zinc works with the builder just to get something different to the oyster linea of the doors etc, but it looks crappy and we didn't want to pay the extra for the stainless "look" Woo hoo, for the same price we will be able to get the real thing... Thanks Michelle!!! Re: Can you have real stainless kickboards?? 6Jan 22, 2008 9:12 pm mattwalker Hmm? What would be the cost of doing this 'vs' using the laminex / formica equivalent? The idea is interesting though Hey Matt, nice have you drop in!!! My brother is a Steel Fabricator…..there’s not much he can’t do with a sheet of metal or aluminium!!! So for him this was very cost effective! Even the doors have metal on them! For an old house he did a good job at the reno of his kitchen, of course he didn’t have to pay the colour consultant either!!!! What would be the cost of doing this 'vs' using the laminex / formica equivalent? The idea is interesting though Worst case scenario, maybe $50!!!! So actually a heck of a lot cheaper than the alternative "look" and cost. Someone's hookin' me up!!!! Hmm now what else can i do with stainless in the house???? Garage benchtops, maybe i might get adventurous and design a funky desk for my study.... the mind is ticking now.... RUST??? Re: Can you have real stainless kickboards?? 16Jan 22, 2008 10:14 pm We had brushed stainless fitted to the kickboards of our kitchen, Phoe. When we were organising the kitchen with our cabinet-maker, we had them fit the standard MDF ones, and we had the SS made to fit over. I have relies that have a SS fabrication business. They also made our SS splashback.
Not sure of the alloy used, but its generally known as kitchen grade brushed stainless steel. Actually I have it adorning my truck too! I can send you a pic by email if you like. Ash. Did you have any issues with the kickboards??? Would it make much difference if it was brushed look or not??? Nice truck by the way!!! Pimp my ride style??? Re: Can you have real stainless kickboards?? 18Jan 22, 2008 10:25 pm I must admit, there is a small dent or two, as a result of our boys r/c cars flying around the home! This might be considered a downside of true SS as opposed to the pretend stuff. It can be dented by heavy impact. But I prefer the consistent look of the SS. Just don't wear your stilettos in the kitchen!
