we have glass splashback behind our 6 stove gas burner - no problems - we would recommend it.
Not a spot to mention.

Are you sure?
What you are failing to advise is that the paint can be damaged if the edge of the burner is too close. The glass is not going to catch fire but a very expensive item can be ruined by the flame being too close. I have two 20c sized red burn marks on the paint of my splashback.
So back to your splashback; who specified the distance between appliance and splashback and what are they doing about it now the paint is damaged?
The builder and he is doing nothing, nor is the splashback fitter/company.
