Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 30, 2011 5:15 pm Hi, We are thinking of putting overhead cabinets into our flatpack kitchen that we finished a few months ago. My question is what width looks best for overhead cabinets? We have gloss white 450mm doors on the bottom cabinets, and are going to use aluminium framed frosted glass doors for the top cabinets. The doors come in 300, 400 and 450mm. I can't for the life of me decide on what width will look best! Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Re: top cabinet width 2Jun 30, 2011 11:54 pm Depending on how it lines up (ie. the shape of your benchtop), most interior designers will make the overhead doors the same width as the cupboard doors underneath them - there are always some people don't follow that rule but it's generally seen as a "design fault" to have 450mm cupboards below and then a different width overhead cupboard above them. If you have an L or U shaped benchtop it can make it more tricky as the benchtop is usually 600mm deep which means the doors over the 600mm corner section won't line up, so many people will do a bit of open shelving beside the overheads, so that the overhead doors can still line up with the cupboards underneath them. Re: top cabinet width 3Jul 04, 2011 2:41 pm Most kitchens designs tend to line the doors up with the cabinets below. Having said that it also depends on how long the run of overheads is and also if a rangehood needs to be inlcuded in the run. More info is needed to be able to fully answer the question.
