Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 30, 2011 8:10 am I just need some reassurance in relation to 2 Pac for my kitchen. we are currently in the process on deciding on who to build it for us and I just want to make sure that the $2,300 extra for 2 Pac will be worth it. I have 2 small children (3 and 1 year old) and I worry about chipping if they get rough. I will be teaching them not to touch and I will be very diligent with this, so will that be enough? Should I choose another cover? Help would be appreciated! (Especially if I want to convince the DH) Thank you Re: 2 young children and 2 PAC 2Jun 30, 2011 8:44 am Hi Diamnond, We've got two you ones and our last 2 pac kitchen was fine, and we are going to do it again with our new kitchen about to be done. The important thing about 2 pack it to get a quality job done on it, and if that is done the 2 pac will not really chip unless you have a real go at it. We've never had a chip of any sort in a 2 pac kitchen, but my 18mo managed to rip the vacuum style vinyl off one of our doors from the edges in our current place before we get it re-done. Totally agree with the above. A cheap poly finish will chip. A proper poly finish will only chip if you give it a real knock. But that same knock would damage most other doors. The best thing about poly is that it can be repaired and resprayed no mater what the damage! My daughter chipped mine first, she was 27 then my husband had a go, he's 50ish. I was given some paint for touch ups thank goodness and I would definitely get it again. Re: 2 young children and 2 PAC 5Jul 04, 2011 5:16 pm We have 2pac an 2 young kids. We have one chip (tiny) in 12 months and it wsa from a metal stool leg hitting a corner. 2pac is tough and you should have no real problems but if you do get the odd little chip you can get touch up. However yopu should not be paying an extra $2300 for it. Over what? Re: 2 young children and 2 PAC 6Jul 04, 2011 5:50 pm I paid over $5K for 2 pac upgrades! But I think that price also included 6 pot drawers... I love my 2 pac! I do agree with Suh, though, it's not the kids you have to watch! Hubby dropped a plate on the floor, it smashed, dented the floor and bounced up and hit the cupboard. Yes, there is a small scratch, but it's so low down you can't see it. I find it's so easy to clean and looks fabulous. I have never regretted getting 2 pac. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! I love the look and I realise that is what is going to last the longest and look the best in years to come. THank you all for the reassurance. I really don't know what is a reasonable amount extra to pay for 2 pac.. this is the first (and last) kitchen that I will be doing so I am new to all this. One quote I had turned a $10k kitchen into a 15k one, so that was totally out of our price range. Re: 2 young children and 2 PAC 9Jul 06, 2011 8:17 pm we have white glossy 2pac now and since the kids were born (also 3yo & 1yo) it's now got chips and scuffs all over it (damn those red push along toys) - i guess this could happen with any type of finish though. we won't be forking out extra for it in the next house and are opting for laminex instead in a grainy finish to hide the general dirt a bit better Re: 2 young children and 2 PAC 10Jul 07, 2011 7:49 am ivory_kitten we have white glossy 2pac now and since the kids were born (also 3yo & 1yo) it's now got chips and scuffs all over it (damn those red push along toys) - i guess this could happen with any type of finish though. we won't be forking out extra for it in the next house and are opting for laminex instead in a grainy finish to hide the general dirt a bit better Is it a quality 2pac finish?? Most of the laminex colours will show scratches aswell. Best thing about your 2pac is that you could take the doors off and have them resprayed for around $3000 Cutting Edge Kitchens and Cabinet Making http://cuttingedgekitchens.net.au http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cutting-Edge-Kitchens/290484196676 Mobile : 0419 430 575 PH: 9452 4772 Fax :9452 4772 cuttingedgekitchens@outlook.com Re: 2 young children and 2 PAC 11Jul 07, 2011 1:16 pm yea i think it's pretty good, it's just the kids are super rough (well especially my 3yo son) he tears around the house with those crazy push along toys and crashes in to the cupboard alot grrr I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home.
