kitchen bench color

What is the best color to have for kitchen benches? We are going to earth colour tones in the house, so browns, beige, white. We are tossing up between a brown speckled or white speckled bench. Depending on the color bench, we would have the opposite color cupboards (ie. brown bench, beige cupboards or white bench, brown cupboards)

I am presuming you will be having some overhead cupboards, this means there is far more cupboard colour than benchtop colour and IMO a lighter cupboard / darker benchtop is better than the opposite as it will make your kitchen look lighter and brighter, I think dark coloured cupboards can make a kitchen look small and dark.

We are doing similar contrast and are having "rosso arcante" benchtops, a sort of speckled dark red/brown and "fleece" cupboards, which are a very light beige.

I’d go the brown speckle on the tops, and the lighter for the cupboards.

Remember though, DARK colour mark easy, so try not to go too dark for the bench.

We also have earth colour tones in our house.
We chose Mink for the benchtop and Pearl Bisque for the cupboards.

I like the Idea of a darker bench, but someone told me that it will ?not reflect the light enough and make the room dark???

I think what you said Helyn makes sense. We will be having over head benches and the dark cupboards will make the room seem darker Ithe kitchen is in an open plan room with a meals area and family area. The kitchen has benches against a wall then an island where the sink will be)

This will depend how much natural light you have coming in through your windows!

Does your kitchen have a window of its own (ie not just nearby in family or dining area) I have seen a lot of kitchen plans such as you describe which do not and if there is no direct window, or at least a large skylight, I would definetely not do the cupboards in a dark colour.

yep, the kitchen does have a window that is on the side wall that is roof to floor length and runs between the island and wall bench.

i think we are going to have to rethink our kitchen bench and cupboard colors.

Should you use the same principle when doing cupboards and benches in the bathroom (ie light cupboards and dark benches), or does it not matter as much?

We're doing the opposite ... cafe cream coloured kitchen cupboards and a wall of mountain pepper pantry cupboards- benchtop is ceasarstone ice snow

TYVM we love the colours as well .

The first colour is cafe cream laminate and second is mountain pepper (polytech).
You can thank Michelle for the colours ... she helped pick 'em
