Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 15, 2011 11:27 pm Not sure if its been discussed before but we will have solar hot water with gas boost when we move house, and wondered if it's worth hooking up a dishwasher to hot supply since heating the water up to right temp is cheaper/free rather than using cold supply and electricity from dishwasher to heat up water.. Supposely the dishwasher doesnt have to run as long since not heating up the water? I heard maybe seals/valves/hoses might deteriorate is using hot? I heard the heating elements might wear out faster using cold, so maybe thats balances it out? or since dishwashers dont use as much water these days, its not worth the hassle? anyway, has anyone used solar hot water for their dishwasher instead of hooking up to cold supply? we don't have a dishwasher yet, so is there one that hooks up to hot supply around? I think years ago dishwashers hooked up to hot and cold? Using Solar hot water supply for a Dishwasher? 2Jun 16, 2011 8:03 am We don't have hot water connection to our dishwasher but we do have solar gas boosted hot water system on the house and it takes FOREVER for the hot water to come through the tap in the kitchen... I'm talking several minutes, by which time the dishwasher would have finished filling and it would end up being cold water anyway! Re: Using Solar hot water supply for a Dishwasher? 3Jun 17, 2011 7:01 pm Check with the manufacturer, some brands say you can connect to hot water but it has to be under certain temperature, usually around 50 - 60 degrees, which means you may need to install a tempering valve. Also hot temperature connection means some gentle wash cycles like glass cycles that run at around 40-45 degrees won't be as gentle as it's meant to be if the dishwasher is connected to 60 degree hot water. Re: Using Solar hot water supply for a Dishwasher? 4Jun 17, 2011 7:14 pm thanks for you help. Im thinking we might just connect to cold...we bought a dishwasher in a closing down sale this week, and save a few 100 dollars new place doesnt have dishwasher but has the vacant space, and connections ready for one Re: Using Solar hot water supply for a Dishwasher? 5Jun 18, 2011 7:55 pm it wont matter if you have solar hot water or plan hot water system. If its a new place or then again even if its old a solar hot water system should by law have a temp valve http://www.reece.com.au/plumbing/products/109216 due to hot water been able to reach 80deg's + Unless your dishwasher states it can be hooked up to a hot water line then DON'T. Hoses will split and washers/valves let go also. That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8647 the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 14074 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black.
