Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 06, 2011 11:10 pm Hubby and I went to the Perth building expo yesterday..... getting ideas and brochures.... well ended up at a stall - nutrimax. they were just about to start a presentation, cooking...mmmm just up my alley... so hubby and I sat down to listen, no intention of buying! LOL after the demonstration we ate the food they cooked and I tell ya OMG the difference was incredible. They cooked chicken - totally unbelievably yummiest chicken I have ever eaten. They also did veges - I hate carrots hubby hates zucchini... both were SOOOO TASTY! Of course they had a deal on at the expo - wait for it - a 19 piece set for $4000... OMG - but ...there is always a but... this included a 24ct crockery set rrp $1290, 24ct cutley set $999 rrp and their new pan rrp $1290. they did have a knife set but that as extra LOL... If you look at this and go OMG $4000 for saucepans.... well I look at it, I will be eating healthier, so hopefully will live longer. Besides you look at a fridge or a freezer for a couple of thousand $, a TV for $3000 or so and you can't get healthy with these appliances. It comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty as well..... have a look at their website and look at the videos.... I was really impressed! I can't wait to get it this week... will let you all know how it goes..... what to cook first! decisions decisions. It is not for everyone, as some people may not agree with the price... I just wanted to let you all now what is out there..I had never heard of these guys until yesterday. Re: cooking system... dipped into house funds!...... 2Jun 07, 2011 10:14 pm Well, I had a look at website and hmmmmm none of those recipes sounded appealing at all. I especially thought it was funny how the 'system' cooks hard boiled eggs (ie. gently lay eggs on wet paper towel. Close lid, put on heat, wait for whistle, then cook for 5-10 mins). Just wondering what's wrong with putting eggs in saucepan of water and boiling them for 5-10 mins? These seem like a real gimmick. If you think it will help you to eat and cook healthily, then I guess that would be worth $4000. Personally, I think I'd rather buy a schmick set of regular pans and a few really good cookbooks and save myself $3000. Re: cooking system... dipped into house funds!...... 3Jun 07, 2011 10:41 pm Oh. I just looked at the website. I'm not sure if it's true that you can only retain the goodness in food by cooking the nutri max way. I steam vegies and cooked meat in a not stick frypan. I don't use fats and oils either. Seems like some clever marketing, but if it makes you happy and you're happy to spend that amount of money, good for you. But... I'd hate to say it... if I didn't know better, your post almost reads like spam. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. That's what I thought but then didn't think they could be used in microwaves so thought why would they sell something like that. cooking system... dipped into house funds!...... 6Jun 08, 2011 6:43 am As long as you are happy but sorry that seems like the power of money for something like spam? Not even my complete Royal Albert dinnerset cost anywhere near that or my "good" cutlery. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: cooking system... dipped into house funds!...... 7Jun 08, 2011 7:38 am Sounds like they paid you a commission. But, Suh, if you have this super duper saucepan set, you wouldnt ever use the microwave Im with you Buzz- the good old boil the eggs in hot water in Coles brand (just an example - Im not spamming for Coles ) or whatever saucepan will do me Mapcalla - are you really saying you spent $4,000 on an impluse - you hadnt planned to buy anything and then ended up spending $4000 at an expo? Wow - would always go home and think twice about it and do my homework comparing brands, claims etc before parting with that much money for anything - perhaps that's just me. I started writing a big blog on why I bought these - but will just stick with "each to their own".... I am very happy with my purchase. Re: cooking system... dipped into house funds!...... 12Jun 08, 2011 4:02 pm Hi Mapcalla, I think you've done a wonderful thing for you and your family. Please indulge me while i tell a little story. When my wonderful wife and I were engaged, we saw a demonstration of a cooking system that was being touted as "brilliant" which Margaret Fulton, Gabrielle Gateax and several other big name chef's were endorsing at the time. They were also major prize wins on Sale of the Century. - Our friends thought we were absolutely crazy to go and spend $3000 on a massive set of pots and pans while we were saving for our own wedding, even though it also came with a fantastic Wok, Knife Set and Electric Frypan. This system was then known as "Cordon Bleu" and had seven layers on the bases, surgical steel surfaces and a whistling top called Temp-Tone.... Is this sounding familiar?? I can tell you, if you haven't guessed by the references, that this was almost 21 years ago now and we still have every piece and they still work amazingly well. They clean up to a shiny finish every time and other than a few plasic handles that look a little worse for wear, they are still great to cook with. The knives are still the sharpest and best weighted set I've ever used and always sharpen up with just a few wipes on a steel. I grew up in a house where all the vegies were boiled to death and was never a fan of eating them. By using this set, our children have grown up loving veggies (even as babies!) and will gladly eat just about anything. This company didn't make it big in Australia after the mid 90's and retreated back to their mother company - Nutrimax... In that same period of time, our friends have gone through many sets of pots including some very expensive pieces which they thought were finally "worth it"... I think you will enjoy using these pans for many, many years to come. Enjoy! Sorry for the long rant... SK. I just couldn't put it in words on here!. We could not believe how lovely these "pots and pans" were..... most of the "non-stick" cookware with lifetime guarantees are useless as you throw the frypan out in a year (like me!) because it is not non-stick anymore. At least these pans have a lifetime UNCONDITIONAL warranty (ie if you decide to run over it with a car, they will replace it no questions asked) There are still questions about whether the "non-stick" surface coating is related to cancer. So we would rather pay this amount of money to 1. no have to ever buy cookware again 2. to safeguard cooking healthier foods without the thought - is this causing cancer. I just think it is funny how people react when you buy something like this, but have no problems paying this much for a fridge, freezer or stove? LOL Re: cooking system... dipped into house funds!...... 14Jun 08, 2011 7:00 pm Make sure you use the egg poacher!! Has become a Saturday morning ritual with us and the kids since they were 4 and 6 - now they're 16 and 18!! I can't wait to tell you the truth!... I just don't know what to cook first! LOL.... Re: cooking system... dipped into house funds!...... 16Jun 08, 2011 8:32 pm For me it's not the cost, because they weren't really $4000 The cutlery, crockery , extra pan are all included in that price too. I just find the claims made to be OTT.
It is possible to cook healthy foods without this system. You don't need a nutrimax to lightly steam vegetables, that is possible in cookware of the regular variety. You can also raise children who love vegetables... without using a nutrimax. Mine do and we've never been nutrimaxed. I would think if I did buy these pans I would not be necessarily doing something wonderful for my family... I'd be buying some pans. Probably very nice ones, but still - pots and pans. Cookware can also last 20 years, yep I've seen it. It just bugs me that they are marketing them as something so superior... and *sniff* it *sniff* makes me *sniff* feel ... inferior I do sincerely hope you love them but I don't think they will change your life, you would need to buy a kitchenaid mixer for that to happen Re: cooking system... dipped into house funds!...... 17Jun 08, 2011 8:49 pm Give me a Thermomix for $2,000 and i'll happily eat with plastic plates and cutlery. Not that strange or rare in my experience. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: cooking system... dipped into house funds!...... 19Jun 08, 2011 9:59 pm We have those saucepans too! My husband had them before I met him, told me they were thrown in "free" with the purchase of a house alarm. He also got a knifeblock of Wusthof knives with the deal. Well the saucepans are still going strong, as are the knives, but the house alarm ran out of steam only three years after purchase LOL! Thanks for supplying the new name - I have downloaded their recipes, hints and tips! I do love cooking with them, but I love the Wusthof knives more! I don't bake so a Kitchenaid mixer and Thermomix don't ring my bells. I agree - while $4000 sounds a lot - I bet your saucepans are still serving you well after two or three fancy fridges have bitten the dust.
