Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 01, 2011 12:10 am Hi Everyone, Ive been a lurker for a little while and have just joined the forum...... We are fist time builders and I have had no trouble picking the tiles, carpets, floor coverings etc etc and thought I sort of knew what I wanted in kitchen colours.......well today we went to pick the kitchen colours and guess what!! I came home confused and empty handed For the rest of the house I have gone with a brownish theme with latte's, creams etc etc, I wanted to carry this through the house, I was so confused when it came to the kitchen and the joinery company suggested colours that I hadnt thought of and decided I didnt like or want. The flooring I have chosen is by Karndean in the Knight -tile section and the colour is T98 stone Cara My microwave is red, as is most of my accessories and I would like to work these items into the kitchen......... Do I choosed cupboards in a darker shade, like a chocolate or something, our range if from Polytec for cupboard doors and also the benchtop, I still sound confused dont I........ Can anyone help with suggestions and or photo's I would really appreciate it, oh and appliances are SS Thanks everyone Kitchen colour's - Help I have no idea 2Jun 01, 2011 7:54 am Chocolate cupboards look great with red. Have you had a look through "Show us your kitchen" thread? Go to the last page first, there is a red splashback with dark cupboards, it's nice. Re: Kitchen colour's - Help I have no idea 3Jun 01, 2011 7:54 am yes that thread is fantastic mmmmmmmmmm, maybe start with a bench you like. as that is quite a large colour and then match cupboards to go with them. I thought I liked one bench and cupboards (after taking 20 samples home) but actually didnt end up with that (in the end I still wanted to use the bench, so used it in my laundry..SOOOOO glad I didnt chose that for my kitchen, it was so boring) have you taken some bench colours home with you? if not..take a wander around some kitchen shops and grab a few. take them home and mull over them with the flooring (I heard your bench should be similar tones to floor and cupboards to splashback) dont know if it is true, heard it on here are you wanting a stone bench...? there are some lovely ones around. just pick one that makes your heart sing or brings tears to your eyes and you wont go wrong Re: Kitchen colour's - Help I have no idea 4Jun 01, 2011 8:47 am Hi Mrsmac, I think your choices depend on weather you like to look of neutral colors or contrasting colors. If you have hints of red throughout your kitchen, obviously you like that punch of color. Dark colors in the kitchen look great against red but if you didn't to have a completely darker kitchen, then lighter colored among the dark is the way to go. I have also seen completely white Kitchens with white splashbacks and hints of red accessories that look gorgeously spacious! In the end, it's all about what you can live with. As Suh suggests, have a look at the Kitchen thread, there's stacks of great ideas there. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Kitchen colour's - Help I have no idea 5Jun 01, 2011 10:05 am Thank you for the replies, I am looking through the show us your kitchen thread, and Im also feeling a lot better today after some sleep and dreaming about kitchen colours I am heading back down to the cabnet makers this morning for some samples, I did bring some home, but they look to be very "safe"colours. Cant believe how hard the kitchen is proving to be, thankfully I have time on my side I will post some pictures when I have a combination so I can get opinions. Thanks again Re: Kitchen colour's - Help I have no idea 6Jun 01, 2011 10:11 am Starz Hi Mrsmac, I think your choices depend on weather you like to look of neutral colors or contrasting colors. I was going to go for a all white kitchen, but the cabnet maker told me that my floor covering was a warm colour and the white was a cool colour and wouldnt look good together, so I guess I can change my floor coverings and have the white kitchen or keep the floor coverings and work out the kitchen.............. I would do the bench first though. (just my opinion though) then cupboards. Re: Kitchen colour's - Help I have no idea 20Jun 01, 2011 10:20 pm You have a great color pallet for lots of different options... which I guess makes it harder With the splash back you can keep it neutral and go for a beigh or you can create a bit of zing and go for a irridecent tile in a neutral tone like this, Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Any neautral color woll go with both cabinet options and will also also make the red accessories pop! __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in.
