Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 21May 25, 2011 6:09 pm your right non-starfire is still very expensive. What I mean is on a light colour it looks odd and people are well aware it's the less expensive version of a glass splash back. If you are choosing to have a white/off-white splash back then starfire is a must. Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 22May 25, 2011 6:09 pm tstr1a starfire glass was only a $328 upgraded from the standard glass splash back. It's a must as a green/blue tinge looks cheap and odd. Umm, that's a bit harsh. It doesn't look cheap at all. There are some beautiful kitchens out there with standard glass with just white behind and the tinge to it brings a beautiful colour to those kitchens and they were purposely done! Each to their own, but it looks far from cheap! Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 24May 25, 2011 6:31 pm tstr1a It can cheapen the look of your kitchen, especially if you paid the premium for high gloss. Sorry but that is tripe!! It is your personal opinion but as PP said some people deliberately want that greenish tinge in their kitchens. I have high gloss two pack paint and as I said previously I chose starfire because I know that non starfire can affect colours. Certainly NOT because it looks more expensive Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 25May 25, 2011 6:36 pm anyway regardless, I', sure your kitchen will look lovely neverless. Love to see pics. Don't panic, in building we all miss something even if we check the details a million time. With furniture and the rest I'm sure it will look fine. Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 26May 25, 2011 9:17 pm tstr1a It can cheapen the look of your kitchen, especially if you paid the premium for high gloss. I don't think my kitchen looks cheap because mines not starfire. It's certainly not the colour I wanted, but there is no way anyone else would look at it and be able to tell that it's not starfire. It could have simply been the colour I put behind it in the first place. Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 27May 26, 2011 1:23 am Chi chi, I think the colour is nice, but if it's not what you wanted and you're honestly going to be so upset by it then I would pay to upgrade it. Sure, the cost isn't exactly small change, but it's small price to pay for your happiness with something you are going to have to live with every day! Indeed, how can anyone else know that the green tinge wasn't intentional? How can a colour make something look cheap? (As a matter of fact, how can a glass splashback look cheap? They cost a bomb!) Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 29May 26, 2011 10:56 am When I was in the process of building, I put a thread up "I think I regret my decision" based on a lot of negative comments on H1 in regards to non starfired glass I'd hate to think people think my kitchen looks CHEAP It cost me a fortune!! I was going for that greenish look when I was choosing it, as I've put splashes of green throughout my home! http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad92/barbs68/479.jpg Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 30May 26, 2011 10:59 am Looks stunning brb_654! I can't see anything cheap there! I just made a coffee whilst standing in front of my cheap splashback. Couldn't be happier with the colour! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 31May 26, 2011 11:00 am joles Looks stunning brb_654! (It's not Starfire ) For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 34May 26, 2011 11:42 am Peoples with non-starfire glass rest assured your kitchens do not look "cheap"!! I will sound like a broken record but - CHOOSE WHAT MAKES YOUR HEART SING!! Don't listen to anyone else - they don't have to live in your house!! Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 35May 26, 2011 12:23 pm Kind of disappointing to see so many negative comments in a thread where the OP is not happy with their splashback. I agree that some colors can have a green or blue tinge to them but that is not a bad thing. I think I'd like a slight blue tinge to a glass splashback, but the rest of the colors would have to be chosen to suit it obv. Doesn't look cheap at all Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 37May 26, 2011 12:34 pm I am getting my splashback and all the glazzing from a specialist provider. Starfire/NonStarfire glass is costing me the same as they are selling me the end colour. I was provided with 8 colours to choose and only 2 were starfire glass as the other colours made no difference. To the person say non-starfire glass looks cheap...please show us your gold plated splashback and dunny. Re: Im devasted about my new kitchen :( 38May 26, 2011 12:38 pm I'm going out on a limb here, but there is no way that Dulux Silkwort will come out as shown in your sample! Dulux Silkwort is a pure grey and the sample you have is way off. I would get a piece of standard glass and put on a coat of Dulux Silkwort. My suspicious mind says that they used the wrong colour, then covered it with Silkwort and hoped you wouldn't notice. It’s roughly about an $800 to $1,000 upgrade. It’s only worth the price if you want a white or silver splash back. If I was going darker I wouldn’t bother spending the money. I don’t understand by glass is so expensive? Tiling is sometimes a less expensive option (gezzzz wont uses that word cheaper again) and looks great as well (love mosaic). Assuming the structure of your cabinetry is good then I would DIY everything as follows: - replace your counter tops entirely, - replace all drawer runners with soft close… 1 4779 No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6626 2 4669 |
