Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 23, 2011 3:16 pm We are finally finished (well almost)! From the tired old 80's blackwood kitchen with black floors and black benchtops to our lovely clean modern kitchen. What a difference, as I'm sure you will agree from the pics. We kept the carcasess from the orignal cupboards and replaced the doors (two pack in "gloss royal oyster" to match our vinyl wrap pantry doors - too expensive to have the whole kitchen in vinyl wrap). I hand painted the end panels, kickboards and end shelf to match the doors. The original benchtop is still there but covered in Roxx stone (Essence), which we are very happy with. You wouldn't know it wasn't a solid stone benchtop. The rangehood needs ducting and a extention piece to reach the ceiling. The cooktop is induction, and although has taken some getting used to, is great. The splash back is 300x600 honed rectified tiles. The red wall is Dulux Red Box (love it). We still have to paint the wall pannelling above the pantry, thinking of a slight grey colour to tie in the splashback. The other walls are just a low sheen white. The ceiling, OMG, the ceiling nearly killed me. A warning to those looking at buying a house with mission brown exposed beams, DON'T. I still have another 3 rooms of this to go! We still have to rip up the old slate tiles as they are moving and are broken. Will probably use a 600x600 rectified tile on that special tiling board (we have floor boards underneath). The floors won't be done until I've painted the rest of the house. Well done We took our slate floor up - nearly killed my DH - never again!! Re: Our kitchen "resurfacing" PICS 4May 23, 2011 7:56 pm While I love your new kitchen, that old one was pretty whiz-bang for its time. What a shame it had to go. It must feel like a weight has lifted working in the new kitchen as opposed to the old - it is so light and airy in comparison. And that red wall - what a feature - it's beautiful! Re: Our kitchen "resurfacing" PICS 5May 23, 2011 10:45 pm I loved your old kitchen.........soooo much character! Re: Our kitchen "resurfacing" PICS 7May 24, 2011 9:55 am country chook... I knew someone on here would love the old kitchen! I didn't hate it, it just wasn't right for this house. It's a modern style house, would have been perfect in an older style cottage. We installed a timber kitchen in our last house which was built in the 1930s and it suited it perfectly. We used to have all the lights on all day long but now we don't need any. Hopefully the slate tiles come up easily. They haven't been laid very well, just straight onto the timber floor boards, so I think they should come up ok. Fingers crossed! Assuming the structure of your cabinetry is good then I would DIY everything as follows: - replace your counter tops entirely, - replace all drawer runners with soft close… 1 4774 of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them. I find it odd that lawyers wouldnt be willing to take on the case, given CCT evidence and… 1 23754 |
