Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 15, 2011 4:52 pm In our new home our laundry is next to our kitchen, the laundry door is a kitchen joinery door so it looks completely concealed. The floor plan was custom designed & the draftsman drew it up so that the laundry doors open into the laundry however the joinery people said they can't do that & need to open outward, however I have realised that means they will open straight onto our tower oven & microwave. Is there a hinge available that attaches to the back of the door & opens in so that it can't be seen from the outside? The only difference was that the door went through to the pantry. There was a pull handle on the pantry side, but the kitchen side was complete free of any hardware.... just looked like a panel til you pushed it. I'll see if I can find a pic anywhere. Sounds like your joinery people are being lazy. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Will put them up here when I can. Ok, got it working! I hope I have understood you properly! This is the pic of the display. The door on the left of the ovens goes through to the pantry. You can see the hinges on the right and the little handle to get out on the left so there is no hardware on the outside of the door. G Re: Inward opening joinery doors? 6May 16, 2011 11:30 am Thanks for those pics Joles, that is exactly the type of doors we are having Pitto, interesting that they are self closing toilet door hinges though, I wondered how they closed from the outside without any hardware on the door! Since you are in the joinery industry, are you aware of any hinges that open inward (intended for a kitchen & not a toilet??) We ended up using just normal s/steel butt hinges with a custom made 25mm door with 2pac, and we struggled to get it to work right. it was a lot of mucking around. the door ended up getting a handle to it. which was not the design intent. the way the photo's show is a very clever idea, one that i will put down for future use, i just wonder how it would work with a 90° panel to it. Re: Inward opening joinery doors? 9May 16, 2011 4:33 pm Joles, will let you know of the outcome, we plan to print out the pics & show them to the joinery people. Pitto, thanks for the advise, I reckon the toilet hinges may be our only option by the sounds of it. Our only concern is that we do have return panels as you mentioned, might have to alter the cupboards to allow for the hinges as there is no way we want the doors opening out. DH spoke to our builder & mentioned the toilet door hinges, he said if we can find & supply them it won't be a problem Building our custom design "Dream Home" Follow my Build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46820 Contract Signed - 28/04/11 Siteworks Commenced - 20/06/11 Re: Inward opening joinery doors? 12May 19, 2011 6:27 am Haefele have a falling/rising hinge that might work for you - Page 4.20 http://easylink.hafele.com/is-bin/inter ... board=true Cheers, Earl Re: Inward opening joinery doors? 13Jun 01, 2011 7:58 pm Hi all Just an update for you, we met with the director of the joinery company today as we had a few issues to resolve. He was very helpful & easy to deal with. He could see that we really did require our doors to open inward due to our kitchen layout. He said he would use piano hinges & he has used them before & work well. Apparently the last guy we saw didn't want to use them as it wouldn't look very neat from the laundry side. We can see where he was coming from as they obviously care about the finish of their work but if he said that in the 1st place we would have explained that we weren't concerned about how it would look on the laundry side & our priority was having a functional kitchen/laundry area! Thanks to everyone for the advice & suggestions, feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders Building our custom design "Dream Home" Follow my Build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46820 Contract Signed - 28/04/11 Siteworks Commenced - 20/06/11 Re: Inward opening joinery doors? 14Jun 12, 2011 8:40 pm Any joinery expert, please advise.
