Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 09, 2011 1:28 pm Hi everyone, I have been in dispute with our builder about the acceptable depths of a pot drawer. In particular these pot drawers http://tinyurl.com/4y6koq9 Our pot drawers are 290mm high externally and the internal drawer is only 115mm deep. As you can imagine, it looks ridiculous. I have been arguing that these drawers cannot serve their purpose as pot drawers when they have such small internal dimensions. The builder has been arguing that this is to "supplier specification", which is of course open to any form of interpretation. There is no mention of drawer depths on the plans or during our colour selection. The drawers are labelled as pot drawers on the plans however. The kitchen cabinets and drawers are out of colorform vinyl wrap and the drawer runners are Blum soft closing. Anyone have any suggestions or tips as to how to argue this point further? I am still waiting for "Management" to get back to me regarding this, but I am not holding my breath. Thanks! Re: Drawer depths, really need some help! 2May 09, 2011 2:26 pm For a pot drawer of this height the drawer side height is o.k. ish if the supplier wanted to use the same hardware all round, but as a stand alone provision for a pot drawer this is not really acceptable in terms of "fit for use". As a consumer your argument could be that you bought the product, a pot drawer, assuming that it was suitable for containing high pots, pans and other cookware that requires not only internal height but also drawer boundary support to restrict movement of the drawer contents when the drawer is opened. What they should have done is added a "Gallery Rail" and optional "Box Side" system, also from Blum, to match - but this isn't a huge problem if the builder is willing to meet you halfway as they can be quite easily retrofitted if the supplier is willing. You will need a higher drawer back, the drawer side hardware and some holes drilled in the drawer front, which clips off easily. The hardware might/will cost you extra but if you are prepared to wear that it might make the supplier more willing to do the labour. Cheers, Earl. I was under the impression that correcting this problem is not a major task, it just takes money and resources, which builders never want to give away for free. Considering how many other stuff ups we have had on this build, I will be pushing for them to incur all the costs. How much would you anticipate something like this costing? There are 4 pot drawers with these dimensions. do not pay until you are satisfied with workmanship windows require flashing over the head archithrave and up under weatherboards 3 28281 Hi VK, I am now retired however I have stood beside over 300 owner builders in the past 18 years that have successfully built their own homes.
