Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 28, 2011 1:06 pm We have tiled our kitchen splashback with lovely 300x600 rectified porcelain floor tiles. We are very happy with the results but unfortunately the holes cut for our powerpoints are too small. So we need to make the holes a bit bigger with the tile on the wall. We are PETRIFIED of cracking the tile because it would be a major pain to replace them. We have a 10mm diamond bit that we used to make the holes but they took forever and it was a bit messy. Someone recommened we use a dremel with a diamond tip to make the holes neater and larger. Has anyone experience with using these? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. We recently tried to cut two holes in the tiles (using a tungsten carbide bit and a water spray bottle) to mount a magnetic knife block and we gave up after 45mins because it was so stressful! Thanks! Re: Another question for the tilers out there... 2Apr 28, 2011 1:08 pm Oh I feel your pain. Our main ensuite is tiled to the ceiling and we forgot to a PP recessed to allow for the TV to be wall mounted. So DH took a drill to the wall tiles - I was a mess for the 20mins it took him to crack the hole big enough for the recessed fitting. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Another question for the tilers out there... 3Apr 28, 2011 3:57 pm Get the tiler back to fix it. If you haven't used a dremel or die grinder before then you'll more than likely make a mess. Especially since you gave up on the carbide bitted tool(was it a die grinder or just a drill? Drill is a No NO) The key is high enough speed on the bit and being confident of cutting where you want and not worrying about going too far. Re: Another question for the tilers out there... 4Apr 29, 2011 11:01 pm A good diamond bit and spray it wet and go slow slow speed with a medium size variable hammer drill (not hammer function though) or else get the tiler or plumber to redo the job for you High speed will wreck the tile as the tip will heat cause the tile to crack Re: Another question for the tilers out there... 5May 03, 2011 2:20 pm Umm... the tiler would be us.
