Ie you can't have a full length drawer because the bin sits directly into the bench. BBB - I have a plastic bag in the sink whenever I am preparing meals so at present scraps are directly placed into it. In coming weeks they will be taken out to the chook house. Seems a way of making a simple thing complicated to me I really dont find this whole wiping benches of crumbs etc thing that tricky - I just wipe onto cutting board, plate or something and then empty into bin - have never given it much thought at all really Re: wiping the bench directly into the bin 15Apr 11, 2011 10:13 pm Helyn I really dont find this whole wiping benches of crumbs etc thing that tricky - I just wipe onto cutting board, plate or something and then empty into bin - have never given it much thought at all really +1!! Just being able to scape your peelings and mess into a hole in the benchtop sounds good but I couldn't justify a hole in my benchtop ;-( We'll just keep a bin under the sink and put the rubbish in there. I am seriously considering it after seeing Jamie Oliver using one. I've seen his setup on the tube where he chops everything straight on the benchtop and dumps everything into a bin but a) that's not a real kitchen b) I bet he doesn't clean and sterilise it c) be nice to have a TV crew clean up the fr*ggin mess he makes. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: wiping the bench directly into the bin 18Apr 11, 2011 10:57 pm But if you think about it, its fairly clean and would be straight forward. The hole would have a metal lid(something inconspicuous and not get in the way) and a collar to funnel waste directly into the bin without splashing around underside the bench. To clean you just use normal antibacterial and wipe it all down... Beats the wear and tear of a railed bin without any chance of it missing and ending up cleaning the floor as well. I always use a one of those thin flexible chopping boards as a minimum and empty into bin straightaway, the most that's left on the bench is a few crumbs. I just think the bin and preparation area should be well separated - not one and the same.
