Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 02, 2008 5:41 pm Im seeing more and more houses in mags with underbench sinks
with no drainage at all (just sinks only), in stone benches I used to see stainless steel above bench sinks with drainage areas or underbench sinks with drainage lines actually cut into the stone is there no longer a need for drainage? do people just put things straight into the sink or dishwasher if they have the underbench sinks only? I think they look more attractive when set in stone, than a sink that takes up a lot of the bench space. We're all used to strange comments around here! ![]() Those that make solid surfaces such as benchtops can cut drainage channels into these surfaces, providing drainage into a sink. Corian and similar agglomerate surfaces are often done this way. Not sure about granite & stone though. Ash. Re: about underbench sinks and kitchen benches..... 9Jan 02, 2008 6:05 pm I think it would be a good idea….the water has to go somewhere!
Might as well send it where it supposed to be, than leave it laying on the top. I think you do need some sort of dedicated space for wet dishes. The photo of my beautiful sink with colander is around somewhere... Re: about underbench sinks and kitchen benches..... 18Jan 02, 2008 7:45 pm Well, I am really old school (some might just say ![]() and I wanted a double drainer sink which is much less common these days but I like a dedicated side each for wet dishes and dirty dishes, otherwise the dirty cups, dishes etc just get put on the benchtop. Our kitchen is a conventional U-shape and the sink is going under the window on the short side of the U, there is still lots of bench space, the breakfast bar is 4 m long. Actually I am really really old school and I don't even like dishwashers. By the time you rinse the dishes, stack the dishes, wash items that can't go in dishwasher, sort out items behind other people (like Bec's husband), unstack the dishes, you might as well of just hand washed them. But, hey, I said I was old - us hand washers are a dying breed ![]() Re: about underbench sinks and kitchen benches..... 20Jan 02, 2008 8:43 pm Good luck with your undermounted sink Bec and the re-training of your husband.
I am guessing you are a lot younger than me. I've been trying various husband re-training schemes over the past 20 years, with limited success I might add. ![]() I mean, dirty clothes go in the laundry hamper, dirty dishes go in the sink etc etc. Hey, at least your husband puts them in the sink, that's a start, I'm still finding coffee cups on lounge room floor, on the computer desk etc etc!! ![]() ![]() Hi all, First homebuilder here.
