Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 03, 2011 9:30 am hi,has anyone recently had a kitchen done in black and white?I have been keen on white cupboards and a pale neutral colored benchtop in diamond gloss,[not entirely sure which one].I sort of felt that the black benchtops were maybe a bit dated, but recently when visiting a display centre they had a display kitchen with gloss white cupboards with a black marble looking diamond gloss benchtop, and I must say it looked just stunning. so now im thinking of going this way, but I cant seem to find too many recent photos of black and white kitchens.are they way outdated now? also i have browsed through the show us your kitchen thread but cant recall seeing a lot there either. so if you have a b&w kitchen would love to see your photos. Re: black and white kitchen 2Apr 03, 2011 10:11 am does it matter about it being outdated? All styles date. if it's what you really want and you've read about the pitfalls of a black benchtop and still want to go ahead then do it. It will be your kitchen and if you love it, go for it. Or are you only building to sell within 2 years? Re: black and white kitchen 3Apr 03, 2011 11:34 am http://www.digsdigs.com/30-black-and-wh ... ign-ideas/ This might get you started. Some lovely ones on this site. Go for it I say! Re: black and white kitchen 4Apr 03, 2011 1:06 pm just make sure you share the photos of it with us when it gets put in. I love black and white kitchens. We were to have had a black and zinc kitchen. Didn't end up happening but I'd still love one. I've noticed that many higher end display homes go for a white benchtop/black cupboards combo or the reverse. Look at any higher end interior decorating mag and they are packed full of examples of minimalism using these colour schemes. Re: black and white kitchen 6Apr 04, 2011 1:53 pm we are doing a b&w kitchen - antique white cabinets with emerald pearl granite countertops & splashback...kinda like this one, but our splashback will only be on the wall behind the cooktop http://www.projectstone.com.au/pages/100_0829.htm Re: black and white kitchen 7Apr 05, 2011 10:09 am thanks guys claireh, that looks great but I think youre right in only using the splashback behind the stovetop, looks a little bit too much all along under the window. yours will look beautiful, can I ask what flooring you are going for? We're actually going for a very similar flooring. We are having a large (appx 2m) bifold window in the kitchen and french doors right beside the kitchen, so we think there will be enough light to pull it off. Re: black and white kitchen 11Apr 05, 2011 3:00 pm Oh WOW I want that!!!! your kitchen looks FABULOUS!! the black splashback looks truly stunning. And I love the floorboards too...[they are real wooden flooring?] they look gorgeous with the black and white, really classic. thank you so much for sharing! G Re: black and white kitchen 15Apr 06, 2011 11:19 am Thanks Mary; I was really concerned about how the black splashback would look as I hadn't seen one in any display homes or anything (including here on homeone). Thankfully I absolutely loved it from the moment it was put in. Yeah the floors are real timber (well, floating floorboards); tasmanian oak. Re: black and white kitchen 17Apr 07, 2011 10:35 pm We have a black splashback but ours are 10 by 10 glossy johnson and johnson tiles. Cost almost as much as glass. because no one here in Aus had the darn things at the time. Any other colour... no worries. It's in my thread and the kitchen thread. my thread bottom of page 16 and 21, 22, 24 Re: black and white kitchen 18Apr 07, 2011 10:45 pm Hi there, I'm doing a more traditional kitchen (not sure what category to put it in really, its kind of traditional, modern, country LOL). Anyway if you check out my build thread you can see some photos of my kitchen choices. I've got a roman marble laminex bench chosen and a american oak island bench top. The cupboards are parchment. So not really black and white exactly but definately dark and light mixed. The floor is a rustic looking vinyl plank called roughsawn oak. Very happy with my choices. I found some inspiration by typing in flickr 'white kitchens' and also in google. You'll find a lot of the american kitchens are light cupboards with dark benches. Or you could try typing in french provincial kitchens as they have a lot of that combo too. Hope that helps.
