Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 01, 2011 7:11 am Has anyone here chosen panelled doors for their kitchen? from what pics i've seen most seem to be going with the flat - and it seems most like the gloss finish? are panelled doors "old fashioned" so to speak? Our home is 70's so I don't want anything "too" modern as I'm not sure it will suit.
Any thoughts? thanks! Re: panelled doors 2Apr 02, 2011 11:28 am Timber door panels are rarely the hight of fashion but never really go out of fashion. Re: panelled doors 3Apr 02, 2011 9:15 pm sorry didn't really make that too clear - we are looking at vinyl wrap doors, hubbie prefers the panelled look, i prefer the flat/gloss look - just not sure if gloss is "too modern" if everything else in the house isn't? and wondered if many people choose the panelled look. I can't even remember seeing one in "show me your kitchen" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: panelled doors 4Apr 02, 2011 9:24 pm I am having panelled door vinyl, friend built 2years ago put in same.I prefer routed doors, imo it will look fine in your older style home.Have a look on real estate web sites you will see lots of older homes bought into the 21 century goodluck.pic looks amazing Re: panelled doors 6Apr 03, 2011 11:37 am Bevelled might be a good compromise? I personally love the look of panel/shaker style doors, particually when done in a Hamptons style kitchen. To me it's timeless and will never date, but it would depend on what the rest of the style of your home is. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I actually wish I had gone more this style with my kitchen, but Hubby was dead against an all white one. Instead we compromised and went off white (Alabaster). I have soft bevelled doors, which Bam has mentioned. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! The house had polished floors throughout and timber french doors leading out to a timber deck so the look worked really well. The timber kitchen looked good but only because it suited the house. We also modernised it by adding polished porcelain floor tiles and splashback. In our new house, I went with vinyl wrap routed doors cos I love the look and our house is not overly contemporary so we stuck with this look and it works well. Also our builder only charged an extra $1600 to change from laminate to vinyl so we were really pleased. We are having the activity room fitted out with cabinets and I'm debating whether to match them to the kitchen or get the doors like stormy's pic. Re: panelled doors 9Apr 04, 2011 12:08 pm n&n02 - really like the look of your kitchen - this is probably quite similar to the look i'd like, all white (well mostly) and then a different colour splashback. i find the 1st pic of stormy's i find too "busy", as much as our house is older and looks much nicer now with new windows etc it wouldn't really suit our place. nice to see a pic that someone has actually done routed doors - didn't know that they were called that - i just thought they were called panelled. Re: panelled / routed doors 10Apr 04, 2011 1:57 pm We have just changed our doors on our rather dated kitchen. We had routed doors in a dark timber and replaced them in an off white flat door. It looks amazing! Sorry I don't have any pics just yet because it's not finished. Our place was built in the 70s too. I think that a more modern kitchen suits that style of house rather than a traditional kitchen. That's my opinion anyway. Re: panelled / routed doors 11Apr 05, 2011 8:46 pm Hi. We are just about to pull out our 14 year old vinyl wrap kitchen. The doors have a 'VJ' panel look and the VJ panel bits are inset inside grooves. They trap every bit of grease, grime, dust and dirt floating about. So in the new kitchen, I said straight up that I wanted flat doors - no grooves, indents, anything.
