Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 28, 2011 6:49 pm After getting so much inspiration from this forum (as a lurker ), I thought I should post some photos and details about my pretty-close-to-being-finished kitchen renovation.
I've got a late-1970's 2 bedroom villa in suburban Melbourne. I've been here for about 4 years now and the kitchen was the last area that needed renovating. It's a pretty good size (3.6m x 3.8m), but was the original 'vintage' one from when the house was built. It had raw chipboard carcasses, skinny benches, a white laminate top that had seen better days and wood veneer doors (although these seem to be back in fashion now!). The rest of the floors had already been done (hallways, lounge and dining). So the first job was to pull up the vinyl tiles on the kitchen floor. What a pain! Most of it came up, but some of the black backing paper stuck to the floor and the glue left big swirl marks on the boards. Luckily the wall wasn't load-bearing so we were able to do this as a DIY exercise. I'm also doing a tiled splashback (Takaota 'Ash Gloss' 300 x 100 ceramic tiles).
