Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 27, 2011 7:04 pm Bare with me - I really should have taken a photo but I didn't think to. My Mum has a common CaesarStone colour in her kitchen. It looks GREAT and has a soft/smooth edge to it - and the 'sides' (e.g. the strip running around the edge of the benchtop) is solid. By this I mean does not have any joins. Today at a display home I saw the exact same colour as my Mum's benchtop but it was finished differently. The edge was kind of cut on a 45% angle between the top and the sides. It was kind of a bit sharp (and a girlfriend of mine with a similar finish has mentioned she has holes in her shirts from rubbing against it repeatedly whle cooking!). Also on the sides there is a horizontal join running all the way around the edge. It looks as though, perhaps, the manufacturers have premade 2cm corner bits to stick on to save $ and they stick 2 and join them horizontally when a 4cm side is needed. Am I making sense?!? Obviously I'd prefer a finish and edge like at my Mum's place - but I lack the technical knowledge to explain what it is I am after. Any words of wisdom?? Re: A Caesar Stone Question - 'Joins' on the side and sharp 2Mar 28, 2011 9:20 pm A picture in this case would certainly help, unfortunately a lot of display homes don't allow cameras. Our 40mm Caesarstone bench top is really only 20mm thick in the middle. The sides that are visible are two 20mm thicknesses stuck together but the join is very, very hard to see. It sounds like the benchtop you saw might have been a colour or side profile that showed the join. A Caesar Stone Question - 'Joins' on the side and sharp edge 3Mar 28, 2011 9:25 pm There are normally two ways of making stone thicker. The first is two slabs stuck together. That is how my 40mm upstand is done. Look carefully at the edge and you can see the two separate slabs. The second way is a mitre joint. This is where they cut the slab on a 45' angle and then join another piece that is also cut at 45'. This is roughly how my 80mm slabs are done (although mine are all boxed in). On a mitre edge you shouldn't feel any sharp edges if done correctly. Some things are worth waiting for. Thankyou for your advice. We do have Caesar coming out and hopefully resolve the issue for us. 4 18733 Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly.
