Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 24, 2011 8:06 pm Hi, just wondering if anyone has used the Laminex Silk Finish doors in their kitchen-if so are u happy with them,do they scratch much and would u recommend them? Thanks! Re: Laminex Silk Finish Doors 3Apr 03, 2011 9:09 pm I was interested also in using these however: My builder specifically states that "high gloss laminates are prone to scratching and are not recommended" - presumably enough people have chosen them and then complained to them about it, that they need to spell it out in writing, though probably somewhat overstating it just to save themselves grief and irate customers given that some tradies ain't too careful when it comes to not damaging stuff during installation. Bit of a shame, I see them used in lots of display homes and they look really good. Maybe you could ask to get a sample from Laminex and experiment to see how hard it is to physically scratch/damage them? Maybe get a 4 year old to attack them with some duplo lego or similar plastic toy... Re: Laminex Silk Finish Doors 5Apr 05, 2011 10:18 am i have seen the samples at one of my suppliers, and i think that Laminex have put a great deal of work into this product and the CrystalGloss range too. I think it would hold up ok compared to gloss lacquered veneered doors and 2pac. I would give them a go. The matching 1mm gloss edgetape looks great. G Re: Laminex Silk Finish Doors 6Apr 05, 2011 1:16 pm I have the Laminex Silk in polar white. I only moved in 3 weeks ago so I can't give an honest answer yet about scratches. It's not super high gloss like 2pac. It really needs the light directly on it to see the gloss (natural or artifical light). I am still happy with it so far though and at this stage would recommend it. Hi Janelle, Not sure if you're still part of this forum, but I am wondering how you liked the Polar White Silk Finish laminex cupboards in your kitchen? My husband and I are considering that colour for our kitchen and would love to hear some feedback. Thanks! We wanted a white kitchen that didn't look cream and we got that Hi fmac, Thanks for your post. I too love the polar white, however am just a little worried that it might be too stark, once it's all over the kitchen - what is your opinion on that and do you have any photos? Thanks! Re: Laminex Silk Finish Doors 10May 13, 2014 7:39 pm I'll be honest when the kitchen first went in I was worried we'd made a mistake but once the flooring went down I was happy. We didn't want dark colours as we have a smallish house and wanted to make it as light and bright as possible. After living with it for 6 months I still love it and don't regret it. This is a photo with the walls painted (light grey). We now have a red kitchenaid on the bench and a beautiful blue Le Creseut pot which adds colour. http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/105abcc8cfb3be6f55bf534a5e26950d_zps4c55b1f5.jpg Before painting but might show the floor better Before flooring and painting etc http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/1D0ACC3A-AA6B-433B-BCFC-22BEDFB7FA59-797-0000018A23AEE80D_zps05b50534.jpg Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 5012 You paid him in full is a lesson you won't forget dear me 2 8787 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
