Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 24, 2011 2:43 pm We are renovating our kitchen. We will be putting down glossy white porcelain tiles of some kind on the floor, are considering white 2 pack on the cupboards and am considering diamondgloss in something like stipple seal on the benchtop. Will probably have a glossy white porcelain tile as the splashback. Is this too glossy? Is it too much white? We are doing up our house to sell it and want to make it as neutral as possible to suit as many peoples taste as possible, and also have to lighten up the house as it is quite dark at times. If it is too much gloss, what would you change to non gloss? and if it is too white where would you add some colour? Does anyone have this much gloss and does it look okay? Feel free to post a photo! thanks in advance Re: Is there such a thing as too much gloss or white in akit 2Mar 24, 2011 2:51 pm I am biased because my kitchen is white on white-with glossy cupboards, quantum quartz benchtop and vivid white splashback! I've added colour through accessories and texture through other things like mirrors, clocks etc-otherwise it can feel "clinical"! In my new kitchen I will have gloss white polytec cupboards, white shimmer cs benches and white glass splashback with beigey stone look semi polished porcelain floor tiles - am preparing to love it! My personal taste is to avoid plain white floor tiles for ease of maintenance (sp?) - but that is just a matter of personal preference. I love wood next to a white kitchen and it might not be too expensive if you get the floating ones? Re: Is there such a thing as too much gloss or white in akit 6Mar 25, 2011 9:48 am ^^ I love white kitchens on timber floors Our kitchen is white gloss with white stone benches, our splash back is beige royal though so breaks it up a bit. Our floors are an off white/creamy polished porcelain. I opted for white on white because I know if I did anything else I would get sick of it. This way I can get some nice bar stools & accessories to break it up. I think going white on white on white is definitely the way to go. Re: Is there such a thing as too much gloss or white in akit 9Mar 25, 2011 1:23 pm Thanks for all of your suggestions, I think I am less scared of all the gloss and white now.. a kitchen person had made a comment about too much gloss so I was a bit concerned. My favourite floor with a white kitchen is actually a wooden floor but our kitchen adjoins a living area with tasmanian oak floarboards, yet under the tiles in the kitchen is just timber. So if we polished those up, or put floating floors on, it would look odd next to the tasmanian oak. Darker floors is a good idea too but we have had a real estate agent in who made a comment about our hallway tiles being too dark (dark brown mosaics circa 1980) and our hallway is right next to our kitchen and people have also commented that the tiles in the hallway and kitchen should match so because we need lighter in there we really need to keep them lightish in the kitchen. Thanks again for your reassurance everyone! Re: Is there such a thing as too much gloss or white in akit 10Mar 25, 2011 1:29 pm I agree with the above. If the flooring is darker tones, white on white is fine. I loved it! This time I have got off white/beigey polished porcelain tiles, gloss parchments cupboards and gloss whitish benchtop. I think if you can break the white up with warm toned walls and accessories then you don't get a stark look. Just my opinion though. Also if it is a small space (not open plan) dark floor tiles may enclose the space.....my opinion again. I love how gloss bounces the light around.
