Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 16, 2011 10:39 am Hi everyone! Well, we’ve bought all our appliances and are in our final stage of kitchen design. But we forgot about buying a sink! Any tips on what to look for in a sink (we’re not too keen on under-counter mounted ones – a bit too modern for our quite traditional kitchen!) Any suggestions on what brand is best? Cheers Re: ...and the kitchen sink! 2Mar 16, 2011 8:34 pm Hi Claire, I have heard that Oliveri and Abbey make really good sinks-I went looking at some cheaper ones at Bunnings and was told to feel that the base is strong but its hard when their in a cardboard box-so found a really nice guy at a plumbing store-he said I could buy a cheap Clarke sink for $299 with a bonus tap (but it may start looking tired after a few years) or the Oliveri which start at $395 which are stronger, deeper sinks and better quality-so Im getting that with a bonus cutting board and colander thing that fit the sink-best of luck! Re: ...and the kitchen sink! 3Mar 16, 2011 8:51 pm Another vote for Oliveri. I had a double bowl double drainer sink at our home we have just sold and will be getting another the same. I love having a drainer on each side of the bowls...i dislike water on the benches. Good luck Re: ...and the kitchen sink! 5Mar 18, 2011 8:46 am There was a thread about sinks last week where someone suggested watching the video about sinks on E and S Trading's website. I found it pretty useful so here's the link... http://www.estrading.com.au/how-to-choose-a-good-quality-sink/w1/i1036225/ Re: ...and the kitchen sink! 8Mar 29, 2011 3:20 pm We have gone with Oliveri as well. We chose a double bowl undermount - Monet I think. As our kitchen is not yet complete, it's really reassuring to hear that Oliveri gets the thumbs up!! No rest for the wicked! Re: ...and the kitchen sink! 9Mar 30, 2011 9:02 am For those of you with Oliveri sinks, do you have the draining board with the plastic around the edge? I like the look of those - they look easier to pick up and move around than other brands' drainers - but it's been suggested to me that the plastic edge can get mouldy. Has this happened to anyone? Do you have to scrub at the plastic edge to keep them clean? Re: ...and the kitchen sink! 10Mar 31, 2011 11:39 am Hi Pippi, our sink came with the drainer as a standard inclusion - i love the look of it too!! It came with the chopping board and colander as well. We haven't bought the dish rack as it was an extra $110 and we might reassess our budget at the completion of the kitchen and have a splurge (??). So as our kitchen is not yet complete I can't help with your question, but i'll be interested to see anyone else's replies and experiences. No rest for the wicked! Re: ...and the kitchen sink! 11May 23, 2011 12:41 pm Hi Pippi, Harvey Norman have an Oliveri promotion on at the moment - $658 for a double bowl insert sink includes a mixer tap. I think you save roughly around $140. I bought this and got a HiFlow water filter with the promotion too. Oliveri make great sinks!! Re: ...and the kitchen sink! 12Jul 13, 2011 9:44 am sorry but i'd like to tag onto this thread with a dumb question, I too am looking at the oliveri sink too, - they say they come with basket waste, from i gather this stop "muck" going down the sink - but does it double as a plug too? sorry seems dumb, but i have to ask! thanks Re: ...and the kitchen sink! 13Jul 13, 2011 10:07 am kel72 sorry but i'd like to tag onto this thread with a dumb question, I too am looking at the oliveri sink too, - they say they come with basket waste, from i gather this stop "muck" going down the sink - but does it double as a plug too? sorry seems dumb, but i have to ask! thanks No question is dumb - yes it is a plug as well and they are brilliant!!
