Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 08, 2011 12:41 pm We have been in new house now for 3 months and already had problems with our polyurethane (other than those created by the builders themselves!). Our polyurethane is chipping around the drawers and now at the base of the island bench. I'm at my wits end trying to prolong the life of my kitchen but it seems I'm losing the battle. I'm so paranoid that my poor kids aren't allowed in the kitchen for fear of them damaging it. Has anyone else had problems with their polyurethane kitchen? I'm so disappointed and so wish I had downgraded the builders package to laminate Re: Polyuerethane Kitchen 2Mar 08, 2011 2:00 pm Sounds like the paint on your kitchen is not 2pac. When getting a painted kitchen there are a few questions to ask.... 1. Is the paint 2pac? 2pac paint is like the paint on cars and is much harder than standard poly. 2. Who do they get to do their polishing? Furniture polishing is another trade altogether. Anyone who does their own polishing, I would stay clear of. 3. Ask about care and maintenance of your new kitchen, whatever finish you choose. What you clean your kitchen with can make all the difference to keeping it looking good. If I was you I would be getting the builder or the cabinetmaker back to explain a few things... I wil investigate whether an proper undercoat has been applied ad warranty applies Re: Polyuerethane Kitchen 4Mar 08, 2011 9:11 pm Thanks for your replies So far I've been able to ascertain that the paint is supposed to be 2 pac. I rang a local kitchen installer who was surprised that I'm already having problems with my kitchen. He mentioned that he had a 2 pac kitchen for 2 years and even with 3 kids it still remains in pristine condition. Also had a chat to the company that installed the kitchen late this arvo and will be calling them again tomorrow in the hope they will get the company that does their 2 pac out to inspect their work. Will let you know how I go. Thanks again No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6632 2 4680 that will depend on the kitchen bench depth. you'll have to specify it so it allows for both the tap and the sink 1 7394 |
