Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 07, 2011 9:05 am Hi guys im a first time poster, the forum looks great for loads of House information which im sure i will find handy for quite some time. Now the reason for my post is my kitchen benchtop (Quantum Quartz) Me and my partner have had a new kitchen installed and have only been living in the house for around 1 month. We are finding it incredibly hard to keep our stone clean, it almost looks like whats happening is anything we place on the bench is soaking into the stone and staining it! Im really confused because when i researched stone i was told that it had a high resistance to stains. Some examples of things that seem to be staining / leaving marks. Something as simple as Water, if left on the bench is leaving marks... I have marks from where a glass has been sitting on the bench One of the weird cases was i had a myer bag sitting on our bench and realised it had left a mark (a nice black mark) Are we doing something wrong here? or was there a process that was not completed on our stone from the supplier/Installer? Perhaps some type of sealing at the end of installation. Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. In the meantime ill be contacting Quantum Quartz to ask them to check the installers work and confirm it was done correctly, then ill contact the installer and notify them of whats going on. Re: Quantum Quartz - Possible Issues? 2Mar 07, 2011 2:02 pm Hi dvs, something doesn't sound right here. It's almost like the stone has not been polished. Does it have a shine to it or is the top of the bench unpolished like the underside. A quartz top should be at least 99 percent non porous. I would contact whoever installed your kitchen and have them send out the rep from Quantum Quartz to take a look. This should definately not be happening. Hope this helps. It has shine to it, but how much shine is it supposed to have? I wouldnt say its really shiny and when you run your hand over it it doesnt really feel smooth. Is this supposed to be the case?, or does this sound like a rush job by the installer. I called Quantum Quartz and they recommended that i scrub it with a scourer with gif diluted in warm water. Ill probably try that tonight and see how it comes out. Any way i can determine if the job has been done correctly or not?, i dont know anyone that has a Quantum Quartz bench to compare with so its hard to know for sure if it was a bad installer. Re: Quantum Quartz - Possible Issues? 4Mar 08, 2011 7:28 am We have Quantum Quartz and no problems like that. If you are running your hand over it and it is not smooth something is wrong. I don't think it would be the fault of the installer though, the stone would be delivered to them already finished, all they would be doing is cutting it. Re: Quantum Quartz - Possible Issues? 5Mar 08, 2011 11:26 am I have a QQ bench in white and no problems at all like that. The only thing I notice is minimal black ink from the paper leaves a marked when left there for a few hours, but its nothing that doesnt come off with a quick wipe over. Ours is totall smooth as well. Personally I wouldnt be touching mine with a scourer..... Re: Quantum Quartz - Possible Issues? 7Mar 08, 2011 12:15 pm doesn't sound right at all dvs some pictures would be great, also what colour is the stone? light colours will stain or at least show stains more easily but still should be coming out, especially water!! I wouldn't scour my stone either... "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Currently scaping the land. Re: Quantum Quartz - Possible Issues? 9Mar 10, 2011 8:19 am I would be ringing qq and get there technical manager out to inspect Needs to be replaced sounds like a manufacturing fault after all it us man made Re: Quantum Quartz - Possible Issues? 11Sep 20, 2011 6:21 pm The quality of Quantum Quartz is high. I've never heard of that.. Would be very interested to hear the result of that. yes it is possible but watch for noise transmission, decouple as best you can. Maybe wider top and bottom plates with 70mm studs to allow the cabinet to be recessed fully 1 6610 You can wash over existing pavers with 10% solution of water and hydrochloric acid, then wash off. The acid will provide for required bond key with new concrete. 1 36925 0 9761 |
