Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 23, 2011 6:01 pm Hey, So this is my kitchen design for my new holiday house, any suggestions? Problems people can see? It's all to scale and the redline indicates the wall. http://www.flickr.com/photos/39709940@N08/5470060393/ Can anyone help me figure out an approximate cost for just the joinery and bench top? How much extra for caesar stone (only 20mm) over laminex? Not going for soft close cupboards, might get soft close draws depending on how much extra it would be...probably a very plain all white kitchen (having wooden floorboards) and the cupboards will all be to ceiling height. Our builder has allowed 20k for joinery, but thats including 4 wardrobes and two vanities (joinery only, no tapware, basins etc). So trying to figure out how much more we'll have to pay... This is how much i'm expecting things to cost... $8000 for the wardrobes, $1000 for downstairs vanity, $1500 for upstairs vanity, Approx $3000 for Caesar stone to kitchen... Which would only leave $6500 for kitchen joinery...how much extra should i be allowing? As we're building a duplex (i.e two identical of each kitchens, vanities etc) will this reduce the cost? Not going for a really expensive finish as it is only a holiday house, but still above average... Re: Kitchen design thought? Approx costing? 2Feb 23, 2011 6:40 pm maybe just have drawers instead of a cupboard next to the oven? pot type ones, for tupperware. cant help with anything else, sorry Re: Kitchen design thought? Approx costing? 3Feb 23, 2011 7:00 pm Are those costs for the cabinetry installed? There isn't that much to that kitchen and without tops you could conceivably come in around that price. You could definitely get that kitchen supplied assembled to your budget and add another $500 - $800 for installation depending on who does it and other things like bulkheads, handles et cetera. You can get some very nice finishes with melamine boards these days. The sink cupboard looks a bit small for a 1 1/2 bowl - don't forget that internal dimensions are 32mm less than overall and both bowls have to fit in there. If you really need to save cash you could consider using Blum Metabox Full Extension instead of the Softclose - they are good quality steel sided drawers. Custom made vanities are never cheap and if you are only having two (or 2 x 2) made there is no real economy of scale. Off the shelf vanities will ALWAYS be cheaper as they get made in hundreds if not thousands per run...and 2 kitchens just means more boards and labour and an hour less set up costs for programming the second kitchen, so no real saving there, although you might get a bit a of a deal from the fabricator by providing a certain quantity of work in the job lot. Where abouts are you? Cheers, Earl Re: Kitchen design thought? Approx costing? 4Feb 23, 2011 7:29 pm Thanks Earl, Yes its for the installed cost. We've been expecting to have to pay significantly more for the joinery, just not sure how much. We can use any contractor we like for the kitchen, the rest of the vanities etc we'll just go with their regular cabinet maker...it will all have to include installation as we don't have the time to do it ourselves. Are there off the shelf vanities that still look like custom cupboards? Like an IKEA kitchen equivalent in vanities? The sink cupboard probably is too skinny, all the cupboard sizes and configuration are estimates...only the total kitchen size is confirmed. When designing it i tried to make it as simple as possible so it would be cheap to build... We're building on the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula in SA. Re: Kitchen design thought? Approx costing? 5Feb 24, 2011 7:58 am I'd change the drawers and cupboard next to the oven to both pot drawers and add a range hood. Also consider making the fridge alcove wider (1150mm physically between the walls) it will make it much more workable as fridges are getting bigger and bigger. I know you said holiday house but its worth planning for bigger appliances. Re: Kitchen design thought? Approx costing? 6Feb 25, 2011 1:01 pm Have drawers on both sides of the oven. have one larger sink instead of 1 1/2. remember you might want to clean a larger oven tray or pot. Get a deep sink. Where do you have your bin? Get melamine rather than vinyl doors. Evelin Our Bondi Greenwall was impressive from day one with advanced lush plants to provide a wow factor to this recently renovated living area. The boundary was less than 1… 0 15303 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder.
