Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 19, 2011 8:07 pm I am just wondering if our free bench area is too small. We are getting a U shaped kitchen and there are approx 5 x 60cm spaces and a 1.3m space which incorporates a corner. I started to freak because I thought, geez, I dont have enough space. And it got me thinking.....the house we are in now has a tiny kitchen...there is about 60cm plus the sink which I use for prepping and its been ok k..... So it got me thinking....what space (in cm's) do you actually do any prepping in? Is anything more than this size a waste? Look forward to hearing your responses K Re: How large is the workspace you mostly use 2Feb 19, 2011 8:21 pm Oh gosh Im one of those people thats spreads everything out over the whole bench and has everything lined up in the order I need it Current space I use is probably about 2m..... still waiting for hubby to finalise our new plans Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: How large is the workspace you mostly use 3Feb 19, 2011 8:33 pm I think you end up using however much you have and always want more I currently have our (.9m x 1.5ish) island bench as free workspace are plus a wee bit next to the stove, but it not enough either "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Then there is a bench on either side of the range each being around .7m. Sometimes I can use all 4 sections but that would be for big occasions like Christmas / Birthdays etc. I agree with Donuts - you will always use whatever space you have. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: How large is the workspace you mostly use 5Feb 20, 2011 11:09 am Our island is 2.4m by 900mm and that is basically free plus we have 2 spaces either side of cooktop of 1m by 600mm plus 1m by 600mm near the sink. We really only use about half the island space for prep. I would't like to be without at least one are of free space with about a metre of length. Re: How large is the workspace you mostly use 6Feb 20, 2011 11:12 am I do all my prep work in an area that is about 1m in length and 40cm deep - I can tell because there's crap all over the rest of the island bench that I've pushed out of the way to get the space.
