What is "sash material"?
Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: What makes cabinets good quality? What questions to ask? 121Sep 06, 2016 8:13 am kitchen I am certain a few cabinetmakers will be abl;e to give you some a word of wisdom. From what I have seen, the vast majority of the sash material is MDF and the main genuine change is the thickness, so by and large thicker is better I think. You can more often than not tell by looking of pivots are great quality and clearly Blum is high spec stuff. What is "sash material"? Usually, are only the doors cut on CNC machine or the cabinet panels too? Which joining method is better for plywood carcass - nail & glue or screws? Chemicals used in 2pac finish are highly toxic, are there any health implications when comparing to acrylic finishing? Re: What makes cabinets good quality? Only a trained eye will pick the difference between a CNC cut kitchen and a well cut kitchen on a panel saw. No difference in quality if done correctly If a CNC is used then everything is cut on it. When we build our carcasses we use nails, screws and glue! The nails pin the cabinet quickly together so the screws go in quicker while the glue is drying. What questions to ask? 126Jun 10, 2018 5:53 pm Gloria55 leanne27 Trying to surf the challenging environment of quotes for kitchens. Can anyone tell me what is good quality in cabinet making and what questions I should be asking the cabinet makers? I know the mechanisms that I want, Blum tandembox, soft motion, I know I want high gloss vinyl wrap but when it comes to the quality of the cabinet I am at a loss. My builder has said to make sure that the back is solid and that's about all the advice he has come up with. I am after good quality minus the enormous price tags that are out there! Anyone else out there who could help, any cabinet makers? thankyou all in advance! If you are really serious about getting good value in your kitchen, get several quotes from various builders, make sure that you get your price locked in and get your completion date agreed on and in writing. kitchen renovations can be a money pit and can drag on, creating a strain on the whole household. Over the years I have completed four kitchen renovations, only one was DIY. The DIY was a disaster which ended up costing me much more than I had planned for. I had one kitchen renovation that should have been my dream kitchen and because of poor measurements taken by the builder, my solid timber benchtop did not line up with the angled kitchen bench and therefore un-useable, the builder was annoyed at me because I would not accept his offer of a discount., to accept something that looked like a back yard job. It was by accident that I found the right people, I was in a major chain hardware store and overheard a customer talking about what she had just completed in her home. At the end of the day it is up to you, however if you want a free in home consultation and quote, a set deadline for installation and above all else , a very clever layout that utilises every spare inch of space you have, then make sure that these guys are on your list of companies to get a quote from <!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->https://www.flexikitchens.com.au/our-kitchens-perth/ I wouldn't get a builder to give you quotes, they will only go to a Cabinet Maker or Kitchen manufacturer anyway, get the quote from them and add their markup. Kitchen Manufacturers are trained and qualified to organise trades to accommodate any structural needs or changes you need. Regarding Good quality, ask them who supplies there HMR Melamine, Laminex is the best quality brand followed by Polytec. Anything else id be wary. Re: What makes cabinets good quality? Had it in 2.5yrs with three boystrous kids and it's hard wearing, ready to clean and still looks like the day we put it in. In saying that, I also don't mind some of the new laminates Re: What makes cabinets good quality? What questions to ask? 129Jul 09, 2018 10:21 am We use laminate in all our rentals. Started putting new kitchens in properties 10 years ago. They all still look great. Couple of chips in drawers in a couple but some are in very rough rental areas. If you google vinyl wrap you will see it has a bad reputation for delaminating around overs and kettles. I have see full kitchens delaminate! I have never used it in one of my kitchens and would prefer to loose the job to another customer than use it. I hope you have got a good vinyl wrap put on properly and it lasts for years. I asked to be quoted on x2 laminate and x1 Vinyl wrap. After reading about Vinyl I'm pretty worried and thinking I should go with 2pac. What cost difference would I be looking at? I mean I've read other places that they are similar in price. Is this a must change - or just live with Vinyl Re: What makes cabinets good quality? What questions to ask? 135Feb 11, 2019 5:42 pm Cabinet boxes are typically built of plywood or particleboard. The strongest cabinets have full plywood sides and backs to stay square during delivery and installation, handle the weight of heavy countertops, and resist damage from moisture.Particleboard is a less expensive alternative. Question to ask : - What materials do you use when making cabinets - How do you assemble the cabinets? - What finishes will be used and where will the finishes be applied? - How will the slide out shelves and drawers be constructed? - What kind of hardware will you use? - What material will be used to construct the doors and what style will they be? - Are you willing to provide the shop drawings before you being constructing the cabinets? - What accessories will be included behind the doors? - How long will the entire job take? - Does the cabinet maker also do the installation? Hope this information will helpful. Re: What makes cabinets good quality? What questions to ask? 136Feb 12, 2019 6:48 am ardesign Cabinet boxes are typically built of plywood or particleboard. There are some good questions to ask there BUT, cabinet boxes in Australia are NOT typically built out of plywood. I agree plywood is a lot stronger than particle board but it is also a lot more expensive. 16mm White HMR Melamine is more than strong enough to support stone bench tops. The week link in most kitchens is the cheap nasty plastic legs the cabinets are sat on. Proper ladder style kickboards should support the cabinets. Suggesting plywood is a typical material used will only result in a person taking your advice getting quotes back with very high prices. Some hardwood types, such as hickory or maple, will resist scratching and denting more than softwood species like walnut and mahogany. Re: What makes cabinets good quality? What questions to ask? 139Nov 08, 2023 6:11 pm sure, diving into the world of kitchen quotes can be pretty wavy 😅. good quality in cabinets usually comes down to the materials and construction. with your choice of Blum tandembox and soft motion, you're on the right track because they're like the VIP in the hardware game. for high gloss vinyl wrap, just make sure it's not too thin or it'll be like a cheap umbrella in a storm – won't hold up.when talking to cabinet makers, be like a detective 🕵️♂️. ask 'em about the wood – is it solid or some composite stuff? ply is stronger than particle board and won’t sag over time like a tired mattress. joinery is another clue – dovetail joints are like the knots in a sailor's rope, super strong. for the back panel, it's gotta be thick enough to not tap dance when you knock on it. thin backs are a no-go as they'll make your cabinets do the wobble. don’t be shy to ask for samples or previous work snaps. see if they offer any guarantees or warranties, it shows they're ready to stand by their work like a proud parent at a school play. compare quotes but remember, the cheapest can sometimes cost more in the drama it brings later. hope this helps you ride the wave without wiping out on your kitchen quest! 🏄♀️👩🍳 and hey, sometimes splashing a bit more at the start can save bucks down the road. good luck! 0 7158 0 6425 It's MGP 10 which means every length has been machine graded to it's specified engineered strength.
