Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 09, 2011 4:21 pm Hey! I like to start an interesting thread topic Quite a few people I have talked to have some kitchen disappointments like hinges breaking apart or not fully opening, handles falling off, drawers failing to close base cabinets too weak, lack of depth on overhead cupboards, overhead cupboards too high or too low, locked up or inaccessible corners and the list goes on So start sharing your disappointments this is the thread to do it Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 2Feb 09, 2011 5:25 pm My major disappointment is that my new kitchen, with fancy appliances and miles of bench space and storage... hasn't made me a better cook Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 3Feb 09, 2011 9:46 pm This is my dissapointment. Can be fixed I'm sure, but because we have 100mm CS we didn't take it into consideration when requesting my secret door. Also like Erin, I'm sure my new kitchen won't make me a better cook either. Should've never let the other half pick the damn colour. It's off white and you can see every bloody mark... I had originally chosen something with specks and lines going through it... But he wouldn't listen Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 6Feb 10, 2011 11:30 am My disappointment is that I didn't have the funds to have it exactly how I wanted! I like it, but I know if I had of been able to afford what I really wanted, it would have been fabulous Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 7Feb 10, 2011 5:39 pm I haven't actually got a kitchen yet (still in the middle of the build) but I already regret not plumbing in the fridge recess and not having enough money to get stone benchtops! *Building Virgins* constructing the Viva by Celebration Homes in Ridgewood on 576m2. THe edges are quite noticeable & make the entire kitchen look cheap. Not sure about the supplier, but this morning when we looked the door was gone and tonight it was back. Couldn't get in to see what they did though. Will see if any tradies are there tomorrow so I can have a look see. A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. Am spending thousands of hours researching though, along with hours spent on H1 looking at everyones thoughts and designs . Fingers crossed there wont be too much to be disappointed with since I've done it all a few times already but I also know that there is always something you'd do differently. Actually, I know one thing that wont be so much a dissapointment, but will be a slight annoyance - my shaker doors - they will get dust in the grooves over time Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 12Feb 11, 2011 10:32 am Kaytee I have doors all along the front of my island and I have 80mm CS. But mine CS is boxed in so the doors were then made to clear this box. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 13Feb 11, 2011 12:18 pm Kaytee, was it yours that I saw in another thread (possibly your own) that down the bottom of the door they had done a kickboard, whereas the rest didnt have that sort of kickboard? If so, maybe they have done it upside down and the kickboard bit was meant to be up the top and the cupboard door to the floor? (excuse me if I make no sense ) Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 14Feb 11, 2011 12:45 pm Rizzo - I think you are right!! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34169&start=480 Here is the photos of the cabinet door - betcha that is why there is a kick on the bottom. Kaytee - quick go and see if they have turned it the right way LOL..... Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 15Feb 11, 2011 1:09 pm Thanks for your concern Rizzo and Kyton, Yesterday morning the door was gone, but late in the afternoon it was back. We couldn't get in to see what they have done, but I'm sure it will be ok now. The kickboard was still showing so I would say they have cut the top and fixed a piece onto the main part of the cupboard. Will check next week on Tuesday as we have a curtain appt there in the morning. Kay Went back this afternoon and all is fixed. A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. Stupid acrylic must scratch really easily. I will only get CS in future. I didn't want a gap between the tops of the cupboards and the ceiling so I had bulk heads installed but now I wish that I had insisted on cupboards all the way to the ceiling. I know they are impractical but I have stuff that I don't use often that I would happily pull out a chair to get to! Live and learn I suppose! Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 18Feb 23, 2011 9:30 am Full of Faith, I'm grateful to you for sharing your wish for cupboards instead of bulkheads. I've been wondering whether to stick with the designer's suggestion of bulkheads or go with what I want - extra storage - so your comment has helped me remember to push for what I want. I'm really sorry to hear your benchtop woes, must be such a frustration and disappointment for you. Hope it can be fixed so you don't spend years bothered by it. Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 19Feb 23, 2011 9:44 am Pippi - yeah our designer wasn't keen on doing cupboards all the way to the top as then they wouldn't be "regulation height" and he reckoned I wouldn't use them. I should I have stood my ground as I knew better!! We probably all have serving platters and attachments to various appliances that don't get used all that often and having them up high would be fine. It's much better than having to cram them into existing spaces or storing them in a different room. I am a perfectionist so the scratches on the bench top really bother me but I have to get over it and just take it as a lesson. This is our first home so we won't be there forever. Baby #1 on the way and I imagine we will want to move before #2 comes! Re: Kitchen dissapointments anyone? 20Feb 23, 2011 10:47 am My only disappointment is a very minor one. I wish I had got a snazzier looking sink mixer (just went for a boring old level mixer). Other than that, I love my kitchen and it has made me a better cook.... because I actually want to spend time in there now ! No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6626 2 4669 that will depend on the kitchen bench depth. you'll have to specify it so it allows for both the tap and the sink 1 7381 |
