Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 07, 2011 11:24 am Did you spend big on your kitchen mixer tap (I guess I mean in excess of $300)? Do you think you need to invest or are cheaper ones fine? Are you happy with what you've got? Would you spend more or less if you were to do it again? Do you think a flash kitchen mixer adds something special to a kitchen or is it something you hardly notice? There are just so many ways to spend big on the kitchen, I'm having trouble deciding what's worth the extra money. I don't want to scrimp in certain areas and then regret it later... Re: Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 3Feb 07, 2011 12:53 pm I got this one for $130 off http://www.graysonline.com/ .. they are selling at Ikea for $500 ! I probablly would have paid a bit more... for me it makes a statement and is functional.. you can turn it on by the button at the end of the nozzle Re: Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 4Feb 07, 2011 12:54 pm We paid $1100 for ours. When I saw it in the shop I loved it. It was listed at $1450 and they reduced to $1100 so we felt we got a great bargain. And it looks fantastic in our kitchen, works like a dream, is very well made, architecturally very subtle and stylish......BUT...... in hindsight, a $200-$300 mixer would do the same job and whilst it may not look quite as good the reality is not many people really notice this type of quality anyway. I'm not unhappy that we paid what we did but in hindsight, I might have gone for a lesser option and probably would next time. Re: Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 6Feb 07, 2011 5:03 pm Thanks so much, really helpful advice. Don't know what I'm even doing thinking so much about taps lately, it's absurd! Once it's in I probably won't even notice it after a week, let alone rejoice at the superior Swiss mechanisms or ceramic cartridge action or whatever it is that makes some of these taps so expensive in the first place! Re: Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 7Feb 07, 2011 5:27 pm I think this is really a personal decision. We haven't upgraded our supplied tap and didn't even consider it but we did pretty much upgrade everything else in the kitchen (ceasarstone benchtop, polyurethane cupboards, glass and stainless steel spashback, and multi buner upright oven). Re: Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 8Feb 16, 2011 10:40 pm When buying my mixer I took the advice from someone on the net (possibly this forum). They said to consider whether or not something would pi** you off EVEY time you use it. Think about how many times in a day you use your kitchen tap. My mum has a crappy mixer that is stiff to turn on, then sprays you in the face when it suddenly goes from off to full blast. I absolutely hate it. I ended up with a Hansa 'polo' (i think). It cost around $300 and I love it. It has a 'half on' setting, so that when you give it a quick flick it goes from off to about half flow. Then there is a slight resistance and you need to push just a bit more to go to full flow. Re: Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 9Feb 17, 2011 10:55 am Splash out. You will probably use it more then anything else in your kitchen so durability/usability is high on the list of things it must have. Pull out hose, ceramic washers, easy to control water, looks ok. we are eyeing off one of these Franke mixer taps https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/fra ... 811ch.aspx Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Not the most expensive but i think it will fit what we want especially the height to get big pots/platters or whatever underneath it Re: Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 11Feb 17, 2011 12:37 pm We downgraded our kitchen mixer tap - when I checked on the net it cost about $1000 and we didn't like it. There's so much else to look at in the kitchen we didn't think the tap should be the focal point. We used the money we saved towards upgrading to a 900mm wide cooktop with cast iron trivets (always wanted those!) This is the picture from the display home. It's a personal thinkg with taps - you either love em or hate em! Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 13Feb 17, 2011 1:50 pm I have two flash ones (one installed, one in pantry ready when I want a change LOL). But have seen another one that I am in love with that even DH likes so may have to by it as well. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 14Feb 17, 2011 3:04 pm Casa2 I think every house deserves a couple of items that are "over the top". Just two or three. If the kitchen tap is where you want to splurg, then go for it. I agree. In my current house I had 2 'base line' mixer taps installed. They were both crap. 1 split up the centre and the other just feels cheap when you turn it on. I picked a nice-ish one at pre-start with intention of going to proper bathroom shop to try different ones to install at a later date. Some people don't understand why you would have a nice tap if you have a dishwasher? But I still handwash so I want to get the purchase right. I am worried that with kids they will turn the tap on full and water will go everywhere. The half stop seems a perfect solution. Re: Kitchen mixer taps - splurge or not? 20Feb 23, 2011 11:01 am Blueblueblue, I'm back with you, think I might need to 'invest' in my kitchen mixer or I'll regret it. Hey, I'll be using it so many times a day for years to come so might as well enjoy it. Just have to cut back a bit on the taps in the kids bathroom... I like to make these little decisions at this early stage, I just hope when it all starts I don't have to put my kitchen mixer budget towards something tedious like, um, new pipes or boring hidden things go into houses that I'm not remotely interested in. Definitely going for stone benchtops, not sure about white 2-pac with young kids, may go vinyl wrap if I can get a white I like. While we're waiting for builders I'm still able to change my mind about colours and materials every day! Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included. My hesitation… 0 22700 The gap can be adjusted so it's tighter. You can definitely set up corner cabinets to have the same gap as standard doors. 2 8587 2 4463 |
