Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 22, 2008 10:22 pm As I mentioned in my previous thread, I have lots of questions!
We have a Bosch dishwasher, and are happy with it. Therefore, we've looked at Bosch for oven, cooktop and rangehood by default for the new kitchen. It's a small kitchen (2.7mx3m), but my wife is keen to have the - 700mm gas cooktop, with the black glass, and - 1.5 "double" oven The cooktop looks nice, has 5 burners, and should be easy to clean. But I've now heard from the guy at Winning Appliances that it's "zone-toughened" or something, and that care should be taken with the pans to avoid heating up part of the glass so that it breaks due to the difference in temp to the rest of the glass. Is this likely? Also, I read another thread hear that mentioned it's prone to chipping - is this true? The guy also indicated that the wok burner, being in the very centre of the cooktop, means that when using a wok there the other four burners will be obscured. This is annoying! There's a four-burner 706mm stainless steel cooktop which has a layout such that one other burner would be free when the wok burner had a wok on it. But I've heard that SS is harder to clean and keep clean than the glass. Any advice? I'd like a recommendation of a good, easy to clean gas cooktop that can do high power wok cooking, as well as slow simmering. Secondly, the 1.5 oven. A number of friends have indicated their 60l ovens aren't as large as they'd like for roasts, so my wife is keen to get the 1.5 oven, although the Bosch's .5 oven doesn't have a fan. Is this overkill? I've been looking instead for 700mm ovens but have only found a Smeg, the styling of which wouldn't suit the kitchen or current appliances. Again, any experience and advice in this area would be appreciated! I'm not familiar with other brands. We have had Westinghouse appliances in both our current and previous house's kitchens, but they've both been 20+ years old so not a good indicator of current quality! Sorry for the rambling! Re: Bosch 700mm gas cooktop, 1.5 oven 2Feb 23, 2008 7:17 am I've got a Miele KM371G cooktop which is 70 cm black glass.
It's easy to clean and the wok fits just fine whilst using other burners. The wok burner is strong and the other burners go down very low. I would never go back to stainless steel, for me it was just a nightmare to keep clean. This one looks perfect once polished. Very much recommended. Re: Bosch 700mm gas cooktop, 1.5 oven 3Feb 27, 2008 10:52 pm Thanks Mek! I had a look at your cooktop and it seems yours is a better design than the Bosch, in that your burners are right at the edge of the cooktop, giving more clearance. More to think about! My daughter and son in law are about to start building, they are having a 600mm induction cook top and 900mm oven.
