Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 09, 2011 6:17 pm Just wondering if anyone has used engineered stone in their alfresco kitchen area? Hubby and I saw it in a display home and loved it and we are planning to use in our house. The design has the kitchen bench flow straight through from indoors to outdoors so basically will have to use the same material throughout our kitchen and alfresco area. Only problem is I have been given conflicting info regarding the durability of engineered stone in outdoor areas - one stone company has said it is fine so long as it is a light colour and doesn't get full sunlight all day. Another source has said definitely not suitable as the colour will fade. So confused Can anyone give me any advice based on personal experience? The colours we are considering are CS Nougat or CS Linen. Thanks Logic will get you from A to B. The only other thing I thought of doing was maybe getting a cover made for the bench top - not the most practical option but at least it may give it a bit more longevity. Will definitely speak to a few more professionals though and see what they have to say. Thanks again Logic will get you from A to B. It is the manufactured surfaces like Staron and others that can be problematic in sunlight as they are 100% synthetic and are more prone to UV damage. I know the local supplier of one of the manufactured stone products has all of it sitting outside in full sun, so I'm thinking it must be fine in external situations.
