Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 24, 2010 6:29 pm Our kitchen was installed last week and I realised that when I chose the kickboard to match the main cupboard colour (polar white) I forgot that the back of the island was going to be in fudge stream - so now we have a white kickboard under dark brown-grey cupboards sitting on merbau floorboards. Looks just a bit yuk! So, my question is, what is the best way to change the colour of the kickboard? It is only 3m long so wouldn't be a huge job for me to paint but I don't want to overlook another obvious solution. Re: Changing kickboard colour 2Dec 24, 2010 6:53 pm Hi kb46, It might be easier to pay for them to be replaced. Even if you paint over them, you could still think it looks fugly. Re: Changing kickboard colour 4Dec 26, 2010 5:47 pm darrell81 best way would be to stick the right coloured laminate onto it.a cabinet company should be able to supply the right colour and cut it to size then impact glue it straight on Yes, I was thinking that would be simple too - but wouldn't there have to be at least one join since the island is 3m long? I know laminate comes in sheets 3.6m long or so. That would mean to have no joins I would buy an entire sheet and waste most of it - or would cabinetmakers have offcuts that they would sell me? OK, so it sounds like it won't be silly of me to approach them and ask the question then. Glueing a new strip of laminate over does seem like the least fiddly solution. Re: Changing kickboard colour 7Dec 28, 2010 11:23 am We had this problem too...Our cabinets are mainly porcelain gloss but the panels on the back of the island bench are licorice linea. I just presumed that the cabinet maker would ensure the kickbacks were also licorice linea but didn't think to ask specifically. Just prior to assembling the kitchen it dawned on them that we'd ordered porcelain kickbacks so they ordered a panel of licorice linea to be fitted over the top of the kickbacks at their own expense. I have wondered why the cabinetmaker didn't think to double-check the choice but then they weren't to know we had planned dark flooring. If we had white floor tiles it may not have been an issue at all. Thanks for your replies, Kylie How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at?
