Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 12, 2010 9:21 pm I hope someone can help me with an issue I have with my builder. During our gallery/color selection my wife and I we were shown the undermount sink option for the kitchen and we quite liked it. However we were told that if we selected the undermount sink as an upgrade we hade to also upgrade the mixer to a specific Dorf one for an extra $395. While we had no interested in upgrading the mixer we did want the sink and did end up selecting it together with the mandatory mixer upgrade. The house is nearly complete and when I checked the mixer fitted to the Kitchen I was surprised to see it was not like the picture of the Dorf Kytin that I was expecting. To cut a long story short the basic Irwell laundry mixer has been fitted the kitchen sink and the Dorf Kytin mixer has been fitted to the laundry tub. This got me thinking why did I have to pay nearly $400 for an upgrade when a simple mistake by the plumber has proven that a standard mixer fits fine. My CSO is still investigate and I am eagerly awaiting the reply and if their reason has no technical basis I will request a credit for the $395. My question is has anyone with an undermmount sinks had to upgrade mixers and does anyone know if there is a technical reason behind this. Magee Re: Do undermount sinks need special mixers 2Dec 13, 2010 6:33 am Hi Magee, WE upgraded to an undermount sink also and we did not have to upgrade our mixer at all. No idea as to why they would make you upgrade?! If you have a look in our thread you can see our kitchen tap - nothing out of the ordinary - it was a standard option with our builder. I'd definitely be questioning it, whilst I am not a plumber - I can't see any technical reason why they would make you upgrade! Hope this helps Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: Do undermount sinks need special mixers 3Dec 13, 2010 6:58 am I don't think you need a special mixer. The only thing I could thinf of would be that your original mixer was specifically made for a top mount. But generally I think a mixer would fit both. Re: Do undermount sinks need special mixers 4Dec 13, 2010 11:36 am I have never heard of that...that's odd Only thing though, if undermount sink you upgraded to doesn't have a hole for the mixer, and your previous one did, they could be reason why? then they'll need a different one and also need to get a hole on the bench itself. Re: Do undermount sinks need special mixers 5Dec 13, 2010 12:22 pm Can't see any major difference as long as there's enough bench space behind the sink and the spout is long enough. And if you have a quick look on Dorf website, none of the Kytin sink mixers is above $ 350 except the wall mounted one. So $395 to upgrade seems a bit expensive. Re: Do undermount sinks need special mixers 6Dec 16, 2010 12:41 am yes in all our research we never came across different models for differnet fixing, etc... sounds like they are pulling your leg...
