Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 10, 2010 3:33 pm Hi everyone, Designing my kitchen at the moment. Will have sort of a L shaped with an island bench also. As my island can only be 2m long - I'm worried that I wont have the room to make the mess like I'm used to with baking. I'm used to a min. 3m bench to make all my goodies. Anyway, I'm now considering putting the sink behind the island on the L rather than on the island. The L is full of cupboards and benchtops. I've never had the alternate sink before so am nervous as previously have always had sink in either island or where there is a window Does anyone have any ideas/thoughts on this concept? Would appreciate feedback if anyone has had their sink on a solid back wall before. Re: Kitchen sinks against a back wall - thoughts please 2Dec 10, 2010 4:14 pm Hi We currently have a galley kitchen and our sink is against the wall. We have a glass splashback behind the sink and on the island we have our cooktop centred on the island with a glass and stainless canopy rangehood suspended from the ceiling. It has turned out great for us. Reason being is that when you cook you can watch TV or you can talk to guests. Also if you have a mirrored glass splashback you can still see whats going on behind you when you are at the sink. Re: Kitchen sinks against a back wall - thoughts please 3Dec 10, 2010 10:09 pm I was also going to suggest a mirror so you can have eyes in the back of your head I think it would be fine, as with dishwashers these days we don't spend a lot of time at the sink washing. You could also consider two small sinks instead of one doulble, that way you could have one on the wall and in the island.. this would work well especially in large kitchens where the sinks are at either end of the kitchen. I guess my concern is having that "boxed in feeling" if at the sink. But you dont seem to have that. Thanks again. Re: Kitchen sinks against a back wall - thoughts please 6Dec 12, 2010 8:39 am Our new kitchen we built is similar to Luke81's. Its an L shape with the island in the middle, sink on the back wall and induction cooktop on the island. I love to bake as well and so we made one side of the island slightly bigger plus if I am doing a tonne of baking, we move onto the dining room table as well At first I was reluctant to have the sink there but like Luke said, its really sociable to have the cooktop on the island and as I chose a slim line cooktop, there is no risk of burning the guests sitting in front or around the side of the island. Hi, We're building a double-storey in Perth and I'm undecided with the kitchen sink situation. I'm set on having the main sink with dishwasher in the scullery - and… 0 20867 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair I'm in WA and our sandy soils make drainage a bit easier but this is what I'd be doing. Dig down to your footings and let the wall dry out. Clean it all well by brushing… 1 5156 6 4320 |
