My question is whether there is a state or any other regulation stating cabinet heights apart from rangehood distance between gas burners and cooktops?

Any other combustible materials less than 600mm above the top of the highest burner shall be protected for the full width and depth of the cooking surface area however, in no case shall this clearance be less than 450mm. AS/NZS 4386.2:1996 states that...The minimum vertical distance between cooktop elements or gas burners and a combustible material shall be 600mm. This clearance applies to the whole cooktop area. AS/NZS 4386.1:1996 6.2.1.3 Splashback zone The clear vertical space between wall units and the worktop shall be at least 450 mm; the clear vertical space between cooking area and range hood or overhead wall unit shall be as required by the relevant statutory authority. I have made investigations and Commonwealth and state levels and nothing found even Archicentre has not been able to respond no mandatory legislation regarding the clearance beyond cooktop area by State Building Admin in Victoria for instance not even the building code suggests any height beyond cooktop are. So if one desires to have more than 450 beyond cooktop the it should be assume it an option to set the cabinets at this height so far as the rangehood clearance is in place for the right type of hob.
