Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 05, 2010 9:55 am Hi, I have had all my kitchen cupboard doors sprayed in 2pac. Now I need someone who will come to my house and spray the built-in cabinates the doors go on. Does anyone know where I can find someone who does this? I live in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. TIA. Re: Painting built in cabinates in 2pac 2Dec 05, 2010 10:02 am I'm pretty sure they won't come to your house, the cabinets will need to be taken off site to be sprayed I'd think. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Painting built in cabinates in 2pac 4Dec 05, 2010 12:44 pm joles is right... From what I understand from watching/listening to my hubby, you will need a spray booth, the cabinets would need to be dissembled, sprayed as individual pieces and then constructed again. Try and spray a square baking tin with cooking oil - see the runs and drips to the bottom corners? Thats what would happen. And the fumes and overspray.... Why do you want to spray your cupboards anyway? 2 pac is a great finish but high maintenance, imagine pulling plates and cups out of them on a regular basis and the scratches and scuffs that you would get! Re: Painting built in cabinates in 2pac 6Dec 05, 2010 2:46 pm I have had Two Pack sprayed on site but it was for a custom sideboard/wall unit that had to be installed before painting - they had to build a spray booth on site and it was a real mother of a job for all involved. I'm assuming you need the leading edges of the end panels or infills painted, as these are normally the only parts of a cabinet that get finished in two pack anyway. There are some great water based enamel finishes that gloss up quite nicely and are a lot easier to spray in situ with an airless gun - you might find greater happiness using one of these? Cheers, Earl Oh, and Bam, love the fact that I'm not the only one who uses the word dissembled! Re: Painting built in cabinates in 2pac 7Dec 05, 2010 4:05 pm Thanks Strumer. How much did they charge you? I had one guy set up to do it (he wanted $700) but he bailed on me at the last moment. It is quite easy to turn the kitchen into a spray booth. All you need is lots of plastics sheets and paper tape. I would do that part myself. I have a U shaped bench/cabinates. Both ends and some of the sides need painting. Re: Painting built in cabinates in 2pac 8Dec 05, 2010 8:41 pm I remembered something similar being discussed in this thread, maybe this could help viewtopic.php?f=16&t=36373 Re: Painting built in cabinates in 2pac 10Dec 06, 2010 3:41 pm Hey Morbid, I think that link above and the guys doing the service are great advice - hopefully they will give you a good price. Our job was a very detailed project, four metres long and 2.4m high - the cabinetmaker built in in his workshop then took it apart and drove 150km to install it, so it was never going to be a cheap job. The brief from the client was for a seamless finish across the whole piece - not a single join was allowed to be visible. It got painted, sanded back by hand and repainted - I think $3K in total for the painting, and the painter doing the job said it was definitely a learning curve and would definitely charge more next time. There is about as much two pack on that cabinet as on your average kitchen and very much more labour.
