Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 28, 2010 8:43 pm Hi - we are going for a second kitchen downstairs - purpose is so we can entertain outside (downstairs) without running back and forth upstairs to get food / drinks etc ... I'd love to get people's thoughts about what we're thinking of doing: Floor will be travertine tiles. Am thinking of doing walls Antique white USA. Splashback: thinking tiles (may also look into slumped glass) ... have no idea of colour ... but need something a bit 'zingy' to lift all the neutrality that will be there. Benchtop: Portafino (bianco) which is a Freedom benchtop ... I've been told by the designer this is also made by Dupont (like Corian). Means we can go chunky 40mm without the big cost of caeserstone ... I'm worried it is going to come across as cheap?! That said I'm concerned if we go with caeserstone it may chip / mark easier than the portafino or corian product ... anyone had any experience with either of these products? Cupboard doors: Either laminate or the high gloss product that freedom do (apparently this is stronger than 2pack polyurethane) and looks a bit more expensive than laminate (designer is suggesting the shiny bronze colour) ... anyone had experience with this freedom product? I'm worried about it chipping ... we have 3 children and so want a hard-wearing product but I want it to look good. Laminates I like: platinum micro flint finish, Oyster linea natural finish, stipple seal natural finish, or the innovations 236 snow crush. Config of the kitchen is: 1 x 600 microwave with drawer under 1 x 600 sink 1 x 600 dishwasher (fully integrated) 1 x 800 drawers (top one is smaller than other 2) 1 x 600 cupboard Above all 3 x 800 cupboards with lift up and 2 shelves Fridge is off to one side Kickboard: mirrored laminate Hardware/taps - square sink (probably 400 x 400 - is this big enough?) and brushed aluminium door handles and round hook tap (high) with square base. Not going to put handles on overhead cupboards. Feature lighting - under the over head cupboards - inset down lights Is there anything else I should think about in terms of lights? Gotta say it is doing my head in a bit all these different options ... esp benchtop and the cupboards. So any or all thoughts would be appreciated!!!! I was told by 2 kitchen companies that Portafino only came in 52mm. That cut out another 12mm from our cupboards as we've planned for a 40mm waterfall end. So just check if they make a 40mm Portafino top or what 52mm might do for your design. Was also told that they don't do integrated Portafino sinks. Otherwise, Corian, Staron and Hanex all make integrated sinks. The freedom cupboards do look good in the showroom. I was concerned about scratching, delamination and whether they will be available in 5 years time. Didn't think of the chipping issue. With 2 pack poly doors you should always be able to match the colour if you need a replacement door down the track.
