Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 03, 2010 11:23 am Hey guys, A quick question for anyone who has/are thinking of getting brushed stainless steel kickers for your kitchen. Basically the question is: Is this 'real' stainless steel plate or a laminate that has stainless steel look and texture? My builder just advised us that many people often use a laminate stainless steel kickers as it's less expensive, and easier to install...but without knowing what the laminate steel kickers are like, I just feel it's cutting corners.. During cooking, vacuuming and cleaning, I'm sure you will hit the kicker often and I don't want it to start peeling off...etc Could anyone please share their experiences, expertise and/or photos? Cheers! Re: Stainless Steel Kickers 2Dec 03, 2010 11:47 am I think laminate kickers are the most commonly used. I am pretty sure that is what we have. The fact that I could not tell you for certain that it was laminate is probably a pretty good indication that it looks pretty realistic. Actual stainless you would expect to last longer but you would have to compare cost. Laminate is tough but if after time it gets chipped it is easy to replace. Re: Stainless Steel Kickers 3Dec 03, 2010 12:07 pm there are two types of stainless st kickers. One is actually stainless steel and is in the same form in laminex. Ie you still glue it on like laminex. The other is a metal but probably some type of aluminum that look like stainless steel. This one is a bit lighter. Re: Stainless Steel Kickers 4Dec 03, 2010 12:27 pm Thanks guys, The little sample chip my builder gave us was from Laminex range, and it's true when I consider the cost it might be cheaper to have laminex replaced after its lifespan. Still keen to hear from more people! Cheers!
