I'm new to this forum, so I hope I get this right!
I also prefer the handle-less look, but have been advised against it by the cabinet maker due to the reduced "grip" of the grooved handle-line (aka Melrich's beautiful kitchen). Did you get a reply from Joles about the soft-close or regular drawers because I also thought that the resistance of the soft-close drawers made them difficult to open with just the groove to pull on.

The drawers really are not a problem to open, I usually just hook one finger over the lip and pull out. Our kids (4 and can open no problem. I think if you are going to have handleless then you almost have to have soft close because you close by just pushing the facia of the drawer and it is not easy to grip anything to stop it slamming.
For someone who had bad arthritis I might caution against no handles but I do not think anyone else would find it a real issue.
