Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 09, 2010 1:59 am Hi, I love the idea of seamless cabinetry so is intending to go handleless for the kitchen cabinets but I am wondering how do you go handleless for full length pantry doors? Are there any other options other than push and pull type as I was told the option is expensive but I am not willing to put handles on them because it will look out of sort with the rest of the cabinets. Anyone has any ideas? Any photos to show how it works in your kitchen? Re: Pantry doors 3Nov 09, 2010 11:46 am Hi, when doing a handless kitchen we use quick release touch catches on our pantries. This way you keep the handless look throughout the whole kitchen. A slight push with your hand (or hip or knee if your hands arent clean) and the door will open, and then the same to close. The mechanism gets drilled into the gable and does not cost too much. Hope this helps. With 25 years kitchen experience and a passion for what I do, I have joined this forum to offer advice or at least my opinion on all things relevant to kitchens. I was a cabinetmaker by trade and am now a senior manager of a kitchen company. Because if I ask the builder to do that, they are going to charge me an arm and leg for that. Because if I ask the builder to do that, they are going to charge me an arm and leg for that. Those touch catches are exactly what I was also going to recommend. The touch catches are available from a lot of people (including ourselves) and are easily retro fitted, but, and this is very important, they need to be installed in conjunction with the appropriate hinges, which might or might not be available depending on the type of pantry you have. Touch catches need a "springless hinge" to work properly and it needs to be from the same supplier as those originally fitted to your cabinets. If you can post the manufacturer and type of hinge they have provided we can probably let you know what your options are. I think the other thing is large pantry doors just look a bit strange without a handle defining them. The scale does not look right. We have those little touch release mechanisms in our overheads above the fridge and oven where they could not do an overhang and they work well but (and we have a high gloss 2pac) you have to clean fingerprints after a few touches, I think it would drive you mad on a pantry door that you use all the time, not too mention just how worn that "touchpoint" would get over time. Re: Pantry doors 10Nov 10, 2010 8:14 am Tried to post some pics but tells me the forum quota is full. Will see if I can get some up on imageshack. When you look at surfaces, check out your preferred options for how fingerprint friendly they are. The high gloss is a solid color is actually better at camouflaging fingerprint marks than a matt or satin finish. But any sort of grain or texture will obviously do a much better job. If you are going handleless, it is important that you get a surface that is forgiving on hand marks otherwise you will be forwever wiping down your cabinets.
