Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 03, 2010 7:29 pm Hi everybody, I am a newbie here. We have just started building. Its in very early stages. Just got the council approval on the plans. And we are going around choosing tiles, carpets and kitchen cabinets. I have been a regular reader of this forum for a few months now. I should say, this forum is very very infomative. So I decided to register. We are looking at the kitchens and loved the built in microwave and coffee machines. We love our coffee and we love our coffee machine.we have a automatic machine now but want to upgrade to built in. I did some looking up on the web and found a few built in machines but no reviews or comparisons. Has anybody done built in coffee machines and microwaves in your kitchen? Which machine is good and how much does it cost? If you are in WA, where did you buy it from? I really need help with this! Thanks in advance Re: Built in's 3Nov 04, 2010 8:08 am We have a built in microwave by Siemens. It does look fantastic above the wall oven but it is very expensive. From a performance point of view it probably does not do much more than a standard microwave but it cost a lot more. Go and have a look at E&S Trading, they have displays of the built ins from Siemens, Miele, Neff etc so uyou can get an idea of the look, which is fantastic but also the price it comes at. Re: Built in's 4Nov 04, 2010 9:52 am Hi Gaay3, We have a Miele built in coffee machine and love it - it's also plumbed in as well which is convenient! As we moved in before the house was 100% complete the electrician had to take it out for a power issue and it is easily done with the removal of a few screws so maintenance isn't a problem... It's a great look if you do foresee utilising it often! Building on the Sunshine Coast - Land settled 22nd July 2009 Building contract finally signed (after much deliberation on our part) 11th November 2009 Building commences 25th January 2010 - small local builder End of June - almost completed fit out 26th July - MOVE IN DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Built in's 5Nov 04, 2010 10:05 pm I'm what you might call a coffeesnob - a home barista and coffee roaster, so I have to tell you that any automatic coffee machine is going to make very average coffee if that. The built in machines just look good, but the coffee does not compare to a dedicated standalone espresso machine. The built ins are also VERY expensive - they seem to range from $3500 and up which is outrageous compared to buying a proper standalone machine such as a Vibiemme or Giotto and a grinder. So if you love your coffee, I'd steer clear of anything automatic. But if you want a machine that looks good built into your kitchen, then they would suit you I guess. It all comes down to taste, or does it? Re: Built in's 6Nov 05, 2010 1:18 pm Hmm, do you agree Moogles? Are you a coffee lover? I was intending to get the Miele built in for both looks and that we drink a dozen cups plus a day (we like our coffee!). I don't like the idea of a coffee machine that takes time or takes up space, but I guess the automatics are comparable to using a kettle as we do now. Re: Built in's 7Nov 05, 2010 4:16 pm We love our coffee and cannot start our morning without a nice strong aromatic coffee. So its a great investment for us. Why we want a built in a machine is that we do not want the machine to occupy bench space. And in the case of microwave, we don't like a small microwave inside a large space (thats how we have in our current house). Kitchen is our main feature in our house as we love cooking and entertaining. So we decided to spend some money on it. I have looked into the price range and willing to pay $4000+ for a coffee machine. How is iLVE coffee machine from Harvey Norman? Melrich, what and where is E&S trading? Could you give me more details please? Re: Built in's 8Nov 05, 2010 4:20 pm Google E&S they are a website. I believe iLVE and miele have very similar prices. The mile is 4499 plumbed from memory. Prices are on their website. You may be able to get discounts on the others from retailers though, I imagine functionally they're all much the same. Re: Built in's 9Nov 05, 2010 4:48 pm I'm with Horaldo on this one. We looked at the Miele coffee machine and we even went to their showroom to taste the coffee. It was mediocre. We were prepared to pay for the Miele built in microwave/oven because it looks so much better than the stand alone microwave and it does add that touch of class. However, we were not prepared to drink coffee which we didn't like purely so our kitchen could look more streamlined. Personally, I think that despite the space it takes on the bench, a serious coffee machine with all the chrome/stainless steel etc looks great. If you go to the coffee snobs forum you can ask for an opinion from coffee experts. http://www.coffeesnobs.com.au/ Re: Built in's 10Nov 05, 2010 4:53 pm Neverfinished I'm with Horaldo on this one. Re: Built in's 11Nov 05, 2010 8:57 pm Hey thanks NeverFinished . I wasn't sure if I could mention the coffeesnobs website which I've been a member of for many years as javabeen. I too think serious coffee machines look great, but then again I go to extremes when it comes to coffee . When I hear people spend $4000 on a built in, I just hope they've compared the taste of the coffee to a real espresso machine. For $4k you can get setup with gear that can get superior tasting coffee to an automatic and your friends will agree, trust me! But I appreciate that they do take up a lot of space. In our new kitchen, I've allowed for approx 1.5mtrs of bench space for my current setup as that what it takes up at the moment - Machine, grinder, knock box, etc. You could get away with about 700mm of space, its just that my gear is well, commercial grade. But that's not an issue as the gear will sit at the end of a 6mtr bench and we still have a 3mtr island as well. It all comes down to whats more important to you, fantastic tasting coffee, or a streamlined looking kitchen. Happy brewing. Re: Built in's 12Nov 05, 2010 10:39 pm So is there a non built in one that is little maintenance and doesn't look so 'elaborate' for lack of a better word. I guess the quality of the integrated can be no worse than that made with a regular kettle. They need a quiz on that forum to find out the best coffee machine for a particular person. I'm interested in either option, maybe there is a happy medium between quality and speedy use/maintenance??? I thought quality of coffee was More to do with the coffee than the machine Re: Built in's 13Nov 07, 2010 4:09 pm MrsGreen Hmm, do you agree Moogles? Are you a coffee lover? Well I do have to say I've had better coffees from my machine at home than many of the cafes I have been to! My machine takes up only 600mm width of space - looks amazing and makes a good coffee in a short space of time - without it having to dominate my kitchen... It depends on what you are after I guess - for my kitchen I didn't want a clunky machine sitting around - and am perfectly happy with my decision..... I do agree however if you get the chance to sample from a variety of machines it would be well worth it and to make a decision with that in mind...
