Thanks Normally there is no option if the bowls and dishwasher are close then the drainer ends up on top of the dishwasher. Re: Which side for the drainer 4Nov 02, 2010 11:14 am I personally like the drainer on the right - (I am right handed) and feel that its a process - sink 1 wash, sink 2 rinse, drainer dry - like you read a book left to right - maybe it's the way my brain is programmed - but I know working at a sink with the drainer on the left - I am totally out of whack!!! Probably wouldn't take too long to reprogram the brain!!!??? Hope that helps! EDIT: typo Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: Which side for the drainer 5Nov 02, 2010 12:52 pm I chose mine on the right... I agree I feel that its a process - sink 1 wash, sink 2 rinse, drainer dry. Inlaws have it on the opposite side and doesnt feel right. Re: Which side for the drainer 6Nov 02, 2010 12:59 pm ^ same here, but in the new house my dishwasher will be on the LHS on the sink as that's how it's done . I'll have an undermount sink so I can pop the drainer wherever I like. So I think I'll still wash L- R but to place in the dishwasher I'll rinse them in the left of the sink and pop in the dishwasher as they'll be on the bench waiting. I'm not fussed at all, think it will be fine. My house and my rants.... - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26937 We are in!!!...and still unpacking. I'm like sleven, it's a L-R process for me. The dirty dishes will sit on the left of the sink where the dishwasher is so it's easy to pop them in. Re: Which side for the drainer 8Nov 04, 2010 2:03 pm I was recommended by my cabinet maker to put the drainer to the left as I am right handed. It makes sense if you use your right hand to wash/wipe plates then left hand to rinse. Where I am currently it's the other way so I have to cross in front of myself to put plates on drainer. Re: Which side for the drainer 9Nov 04, 2010 2:25 pm signuptesting If the dishwasher is on the left hand side should the kitchen sink (double bowl) drainer also be on the left? Thanks It's my preference because when you take wet items particularly plastics (which need to dry on the drainer) out of the DW you don't get a wet floor. Re: Which side for the drainer 11Nov 04, 2010 8:40 pm kexkez have one on both sides. Me too! Doesn't sit well with me having a pile of dirty dishes on my lovely benchtop waiting to be washed, so we will be having a double sink with double drainer (but then we do have oodles of room for one) Perhaps its a reflection of my lazy housekeeping that I ALWAYS have a pile of dishes waiting to be done Happy, Healthy Free Range Wessex Saddleback Pigs My doom and gloom paperwork nightmare viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32170 Construction viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43653 Re: Which side for the drainer 12Nov 04, 2010 10:37 pm Like many others, I like the left to right process. Unfortunately, for my current build, I have the dishwasher on the left and the drainer also on the left. I thought I can always get a "dish rack", if you know what I mean, for storing wet washing up on and this can live on the right. However, having said all this, with a dishwasher the sink rarely gets used for it's original purpose. More of a place to hide stuff that won;t fit into the dishwasher straight away. I'm right handed and this works for me too...I also get unco-ordinated if it's the other way around. Re: Which side for the drainer 14Nov 05, 2010 7:46 am hmm I'm right handed and if I could only have one drainer it would be on the right. We wash in the left hand sink then rinse in the right hand sink and stack on the right hand drainer to dry. V we always have dishes sitting on the left waiting to be washed. I'm with you. I don't want them on my nice benchtop. Re: Which side for the drainer 15Nov 05, 2010 8:11 am drainer on the right here, I like doing dishes left to right and the dishwasher is on the right hand side so it all works out. Just thinking about it, I have always had the dishwasher on the right! I don't know what I'd do if my dishwasher was on the left. freak out I guess "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Wash in left bowl, rinsed in centre bowl, placed in right bowl to drain. The dishwasher is then right to this. I have lived in houses that have had both right and left sided drainers - doesn't worry me that much (may have something to do with being a left handed person? Not sure). Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Which side for the drainer 17Nov 05, 2010 8:39 am kyton I have lived in houses that have had both right and left sided drainers - doesn't worry me that much. Same here - I've always found it easy to swap from one direction to the other, just feels funny the first few times. To me, I want the dirty dishes on the drainer above the dishwasher, doesn't matter what side. I've never wanted an undermount sink because I don't like the idea of dirty plates on the benchtop. I want a defined area - "put dirty plates here!" - a square marked out on the bench in the form of the drainer! Isn't it funny how these sort of threads bring out the differences in people? We all have our own quirky preferences! Re: Which side for the drainer 18Nov 05, 2010 1:22 pm I've never thought about this, i'm right handed and always wash on the right, rinse and drain on the left. We're going a double sink but from memory one is smaller than the other so I guess we will need to work it out at some stage. Our dishwasher is on the right so I guess we will be limited. Re: Which side for the drainer 19Nov 06, 2010 8:41 am I'm left handed so I finally got a new kitchen with it working for me So its dishwasher on left, drainer on left, sinks on right then benchtop to put dirty dishes on to the right of the sinks. Not that I ever let them build up because I hate dirty dishes on the bench - it attracts flies at my place!
