Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 28, 2010 10:28 am We ended up changing our minds about the white kitchen, and have gone for neutrals. I was thinking of having a two tone kitchen mushroom linea on the ground cupboards and moleskin on the over heads, with a neutral metallic splashback and ice snow bench I'm just a little worried that I may get sick of two tone cupboard colours or that in a few years it's going to seem like a stupid idea. Burnished wood and paperbark. I didnt even think about if I will get sick of it but I dont think I will. The only thing is our builder charged us extra to have the 2 different colours I reckon go with it. I think they often look nice, but as it happens to be a current fashion it will go out of fashion. No one knows when but it will happen. Depending how long you're planning to spend in the house this may or may not bother you. Re: Cupboards in different colours, thoughts? 4Sep 28, 2010 11:13 am I think they look great. most things in a new house will go out of fashion at some stage. go for what you like now "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Choose what you like / suits your needs / you can afford. In one of our rentals we chose two different tones for the kitchen when we redid it 3yrs ago - still looks lovely to this day. In our new home build we chose white gloss two pack - which I adore. But not everyone is going to like both selections - but at the end of the day only people that need to like them is our family. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Cupboards in different colours, thoughts? 6Sep 28, 2010 8:27 pm I did the two tone, white cupboards on one side and chocolate on the island. I did think about that too, thought about keeping it all white, but just went with what I liked now. I can't imagine having had done it all white now!! I think two tone will date, but doesn't everything? I guess it depends how long you plan to spend in the house etc my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Cupboards in different colours, thoughts? 10Sep 28, 2010 11:12 pm We went at two tone look in our kitchen, one of the reason was we used a heavy pattern on the bottom cupboards and it would have been too much to carry them to the overheads. So nice to see something different Re: Cupboards in different colours, thoughts? 14Sep 29, 2010 9:04 am We're having two colours in our kitchen. The cupboards and overheads etc will be a porcelain white but I wanted something darker for the area where your feet go if you were sitting at the island bench. We're using licorice linea there. For us it wasn't so much "following a trend" but making a practical decision. We just thought that licorice linea would be more forgiving when it comes to four lots of little footprint marks. If you like two tone- then go for it! I've got to agree with what what the previous posters have written. You've just got to go with what you like at the moment. Every time we've made a decision about the house I keep asking myself "Oh I wonder how long it will be before that look is 'out of fashion' " but I've come to recognise that is just a fact of life that trends will come and go. We've probably "played it safe" with a few of our decisions but on the whole we just picked what we liked Re: Cupboards in different colours, thoughts? 15Sep 29, 2010 1:33 pm Building1, I actually have a three tone kitchen, but my two main colours are only very subtley different. Stipple Hemp (underbench and tower) and Rock Salt (overheads). A few people told me that the contrast wasn't big enough and there should either be more contrast or one colour. I didn't care, stuck to my choices and I love my kitchen, doesn't look like anyone else. Pick what you love, you won't be sorry. We have Stringybark on the back of the island which to me ties the other laminates, the splashback, floortile and our black furniture together. That would be my only advice when having more than one colour, think about what the other furniture in the area will be and be conscious of it working together. http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2010-07-15_09-28-59_150720101529.jpg http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2009-12-18_15-09-47_181220091434.jpg LeanneR We will be being 2 tone - overheads will be mulga & all lower cupboards/drawers in antler http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq27/LeanneRowe/Choice2.jpg Antler was on my shortlist but it didn't quite go with our floortile and splashback colour (which everything was based around), otherwise I would have had it. Gorgeous colours Leanne! Is this kitchen in? If not when is it in? I speak for myself, SuH, tinkster and many others when I say we'll need pics!
