Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 15, 2010 2:41 pm We are slowly renovating our rather dated house, and the kitchen was first on my list of priorities. The pantry was tiny and VERY difficult to use (see the pullout pantry on right of fridge) so we have now doubled the size. Our new pantry is 1200 mm wide, and the pot drawers are the same. We've used a vinyl wrap finish in Royal Oyster Gloss and we love it! I'm now in the process of painting a few things in the kitchen to match in a gloss enamel paint. Next we have to get a new benchtop, new cupboard doors to match the new pantry and rip up the floor tiles, which are all broken. Splash back is another thing, but haven't decided on what to use. The new pantry looks like it's just landed there from outer space, so we feel a little urgency to start on the rest of the kitchen. Not much has changed, except the pantry on the right. We've also taken out a couple of the unusual shelves just below the cupboards on the left. The dishwasher is also new and stainless steel, not the built in look. Basically it's just too dark, the floor, benchtop and cupboards. So we have lights on all day! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The cupboard doors are solid tassie oak but the carcasses are chipboard and in really good condition, so instead of pulling out the whole kitchen we are just doing a facelift. We thought of just painting the cupboard doors but that takes time, which is not something I have much of these days. I'm just planning to paint everything that the cupboard doors won't cover, which is a lot when you start looking around. We plan to paint the timber paneling as it goes the whole length of the room on one side. Maybe we'll make a feature of it and choose a complimentary colour. The ceiling and exposed beams will be painted white too. So much to do!! Re: New Pantry 6Sep 15, 2010 11:07 pm G'd day. Wow, I am a huge fan of modern looking house including kitchen but that is a one nice kitchen I think you can just get away with new tiles in the kitchen and it will look so much brighter already. it's a nice looking kitchen, got a great character into it. Good luck with your reno:) Re: New Pantry 7Sep 16, 2010 4:03 am Wow, that is a very nice kitchen to be pulling out. Have you thought of putting in a skylight, new paint, changing splash back and handles and just putting on a new benchtop? I wouldn't be throwing all those timber panels out (or painting them). Re: New Pantry 8Sep 16, 2010 9:03 am That was a nice kitchen to start off with! You could have just gotten away with a new bench top. But I guess if you wanted a larger pantry... Still that pantry looks really out of place in that wood style kitchen. Re: New Pantry 9Sep 16, 2010 9:56 am I love timber Im having timber in my house You could have brightened that kitchen up to make it look wonderful, but Im sure your new kitchen will look great too Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: New Pantry 10Sep 16, 2010 10:35 am Sure it's a nice kitchen and very good quality but it's not really our style. The house is more modern and it just looks out of place. We already have a big skylight above that bench top and you can see the window is really large (north facing) but it's still REALLY dark inside. So we want to modernise and brighten up. We love timber too but it doesn't really suit the house. In our last house (1930's weatherboard) we actually installed a timber kitchen and it looked fabulous, so I'm not against it at all. But it's kind of fun to go with the modern look for a change. Re: New Pantry 11Sep 16, 2010 10:59 am See i liked the kitchen too,but its your kitchen & you have to be happy I would replace tiles to something fresher, paint those overhead beams, change the handles to silver, change bench colour to a light stone, change the rangehood to a slicker 1(silver),get rid of that vent & replace with a newie. That window is nice & big,you could put in one of those thimber coloured blinds, maybe white that some on here have, that would brighten things & then go with colours that blend( tiles etc) with that. Anyway thats my 2c worth,as i said, not good with colours etc, have fun, good luck! Block bought 1st RBC X! 2nd Ventrua,Keeper!
